Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 – The Voice of Lumora

The night after the council meeting was heavy with silence. Kasim lay awake, the shard of Lumora glowing faintly beside him. He could still hear the whisper from the forest, soft and ancient, reminding him that strength was not in the blade but in the heart. Yet now, something deeper stirred inside the crystal.

Arjun entered quietly. "You cannot sleep," he said.

Kasim nodded. "The shard hums. It feels alive."

Arjun sat beside him. "That is because Lumora is calling. The whisper was only the beginning. Tonight, you may hear its voice."

Kasim's chest tightened. "What will it say?"

Arjun's eyes were grave. "The voice does not give comfort. It gives truth. And truth is heavier than steel."

They left the city before dawn. Mist clung to the ground, and the forest loomed ahead like a wall of shadows. Kasim carried the shard in his hands, its glow guiding their path.

As they walked deeper, the air grew colder. Strange sounds echoed — whispers, footsteps, the rustle of unseen wings. Kasim's heart pounded, but he did not falter.

At last, they reached a clearing. In the center stood a stone altar, cracked and ancient, covered in moss. Arjun gestured. "Place the shard here."

Kasim obeyed. The moment the crystal touched the stone, light burst forth. The forest trembled. The mist swirled. And then, a voice filled the air — not soft like the whisper, but strong, echoing like thunder.

Apprentice of Lumora… you have faced yourself, you have defied shadows, but your path is not yet chosen. Will you serve truth, even if it breaks you?

Kasim's knees weakened. He wanted to speak, but the voice pressed against his chest like a weight.

"I will serve," he whispered.

The voice grew louder. Then you must face the trial of memory. For only those who carry the past can shape the future.

The ground shook. Images rose from the mist — battles long forgotten, kings crowned and slain, empires built and destroyed. Kasim saw warriors who had held the shard before him, each tested, each remembered.

One figure stepped forward — a warrior with eyes like fire. "I carried Lumora once," the spirit said. "I fell because I chose pride over truth. Will you fall as I did?"

Kasim's hands trembled. "No. I will not."

Another spirit appeared — a queen, her crown broken. "I carried Lumora once. I betrayed my people for power. Will you betray as I did?"

Kasim shook his head. "I will not."

The spirits circled him, each asking, each warning. Kasim's voice grew stronger with every answer. "I will not fail. I will not betray. I will not forget."

The crystal blazed. The spirits vanished. The voice spoke again. Then you are chosen. But remember — chosen does not mean safe. The court will hunt you. Shadows will rise against you. And when the time comes, you must decide if Lumora lives… or dies.

The light faded. The forest grew still. Kasim collapsed to his knees, breathless.

Arjun helped him up. "You have heard the voice. Few ever do. You are no longer just my apprentice. You are Lumora's bearer."

Kasim's eyes burned with determination. "Then I will carry it. No matter the cost."

That night, back in the city, whispers spread faster than fire. The nobles had heard of the trial. Some feared him, some plotted against him, and some sought to use him. Kasim felt their eyes even in the streets.

Arjun warned him. "The court will not rest. They will test you again, not with shadows, but with lies and blades. Be ready."

Kasim held the shard close. "I am ready."

But deep inside, he wondered — when the time came, would he truly be strong enough?
