Cherreads

Chapter 20 - CHAPTER 20

This psyker had already been driven to the brink of collapse.

The ceaseless whispers of Chaos had shattered his sanity. Under their torment, he had begun mutilating his own body without restraint. His mind was fractured, his will eroded—he was only days away from complete corruption.

---

Li Qinwu looked at the grotesque figure before him and tried to speak—

But the overwhelming psychic pressure crushed even that simple act.

"Hehe… hehe… the voices in my head… they tell me to tear you apart… to hear your screams… to eat your entrails…"

The psyker's eyelids twitched violently. His body convulsed in irregular spasms as his bloodied hand slowly reached toward Li Qinwu's throat.

"Mm…!"

The moment his hand drew closer, the psychic pressure intensified.

Li Qinwu felt his bones creak under the strain, as if an invisible force was crushing him from all directions.

So this is how I die… crushed by psychic pressure.

A strange thought surfaced in his mind.

Not a bad way to go. At least it's unique.

Even at this moment, his thoughts had already shifted to what came next.

Respawn. Re-equip. Figure out how to kill this thing.

Would a backpack filled with dozens of kilograms of explosives be enough…?

---

"Kill him! Tear him open!!"

"Crush his skull! Drain his brain!!"

"Rip out his throat!!"

The chaotic voices roared within the psyker's mind, like hundreds of overlapping screams.

They drowned out his reason.

They seized control of his body.

"I… will… kill… you… hehe…"

The psyker let out a twisted laugh as his blood-soaked hand finally closed around Li Qinwu's neck.

Just as he was about to tear it open—

---

The voices… disappeared.

---

"The sounds… the sounds are gone?!"

The psyker froze.

Then, overwhelming ecstasy flooded his expression.

For years, those whispers had tormented him—first murmurs, then voices, then endless screams that never ceased.

They denied him rest.

They twisted his soul.

They drove him mad.

But now—

Silence.

---

A cool breeze passed over the lake.

The faint chirping of insects echoed in the night.

To him, these ordinary sounds were like a mother's lullaby, soothing his shattered mind.

Tears streamed down his face.

He suddenly pulled Li Qinwu into a tight embrace, sobbing uncontrollably.

---

Li Qinwu's expression stiffened.

Being hugged by this mutilated, blood-covered man—

It was a kind of psychological torture he would rather not experience again.

---

At that moment—

Bang!!

Gunfire erupted from the darkness.

Then more—

And more—

A storm of bullets poured in from the forest ahead.

---

Li Qinwu's pupils shrank.

There were over a hundred shooters.

This was an ambush.

---

"Kill that monster!!"

The shout rang out as the gunfire intensified.

The attackers were rebels.

The water ripple monitoring station had once been their command post, coordinating thousands of fighters in the surrounding region.

But after the psyker appeared, everything changed.

He had slaughtered the station commander instantly, then rampaged through nearby forces, killing nearly a thousand people in just a few days.

Every attempt to eliminate him had failed.

His abilities were too terrifying—instant death, mass hallucinations, psychological collapse.

Both the rebels and the PDF had suffered heavy losses at his hands.

Now, the rebels had gathered every automatic weapon they could find, forming a hundred-man unit to eliminate him in one decisive strike.

---

Thousands of bullets tore through the air toward them.

---

The psyker did not move.

He still clung to Li Qinwu, his face buried against him, savoring the silence in his mind.

---

Then—

Psychic energy surged.

---

The air grew thick.

Viscous.

Distorted.

---

Li Qinwu watched as the incoming bullets slowed… then stopped completely.

Thousands of rounds hung suspended in mid-air, frozen just three body-lengths away, forming a dense arc of metal.

---

The gunfire gradually ceased.

Shock spread among the attackers.

Even such overwhelming firepower… had no effect.

---

The psyker remained still.

But the suspended bullets slowly rotated, their tips turning toward the forest.

---

"Throw grenades!!"

The rebel commander shouted, snapping his men out of their daze.

But it was too late.

---

A violent wave of psychic energy erupted.

---

The bullets shot back.

---

Screams filled the forest.

Bodies were torn apart instantly, shredded by the returning storm of metal.

Some were struck by dozens of rounds at once, their bodies exploding into fragments.

---

In less than three seconds—

Everyone was dead.

---

The forest fell silent.

---

The last rebel, coughing blood, tried to throw a grenade.

It flew forward—

Then reversed mid-air.

---

It returned to his arms.

---

Boom.

---

Nothing remained.

---

Li Qinwu stared at the ruined battlefield, then at the psyker still clinging to him.

His body had regained control.

He could move again.

---

"…You done?"

He forced out a strained smile.

"How long are you planning to hold me like this?"

---

The psyker slowly raised his head and looked at him.

"You… are different."

"You possess… a pure power. Even the demons… dare not approach."

---

Li Qinwu immediately understood.

It was the effect of the holy bread.

---

Without hesitation, he took one out and handed it over.

"Here."

"Eat."

---

The psyker accepted it carefully.

Like something sacred.

---

For the first time—

There was no madness in his eyes.
