Chapter 13 - The Truth Of The Hunter

The chamber trembled as the energy from the last clash slowly faded, but the tension remained sharp, unbroken. Dust hung in the air, drifting between the Nameless One and the Hunter like a silent barrier. The Nameless One stood firm despite the pain tearing through his body, his grip steady on the dark blade as shadows coiled faintly around him, waiting for his command. Across from him, the Hunter rose slowly, his armor cracked where the last strike had landed, yet the overwhelming pressure around him had not disappeared. If anything, it had grown colder.

"You've improved," the Hunter said, his voice no longer calm, but edged with something darker. "Far more than expected."

The Nameless One didn't reply. His eyes were locked on the Hunter, sharp and unyielding. He could feel it now—the difference between them had narrowed, but it was still there. The Hunter was stronger, more experienced, and completely in control of his power. One mistake… and it would all end.

"But it changes nothing," the Hunter continued, lifting his head slightly. "Do you really think you can escape your fate?"

The words struck deeper than any attack.

The Nameless One frowned. "What are you talking about?"

The Hunter let out a low breath, almost like a laugh. "You still don't know," he said. "Even after coming this far."

Kael stepped forward slightly, his voice tense. "Stop talking and fight."

But the Hunter ignored him.

His gaze remained fixed on the Nameless One.

"You think the Sovereign fears you," he said slowly. "That he erased you because you were a threat."

The Nameless One's grip tightened.

"That's not it, is it?" he said.

The Hunter's lips curved faintly.

"No," he replied. "He didn't erase you because you were dangerous…"

He paused.

"…He erased you because you were his."

Silence.

The words echoed through the chamber like a crack in reality itself.

The Nameless One froze.

"…What?" his voice came out low, almost empty.

Lyra's eyes widened. "That's a lie."

But the Hunter continued as if she hadn't spoken.

"You were not just born into power," he said. "You were created for it."

The Nameless One's heart pounded violently.

"No… that's not true."

"Isn't it?" the Hunter stepped forward, his presence pressing harder. "Why do you think your power responds the way it does? Why do you think it feels familiar? Why do you think the shadows obey you?"

Each question hit harder than the last.

Memories flashed again.

The destruction.

The sealing.

The whispers.

The shadow version of himself.

The Nameless One staggered slightly.

Varin's voice cut in sharply. "Enough."

The Hunter glanced at him briefly. "You've been hiding it well," he said. "But sooner or later, he would learn."

Lyra turned to Varin. "What is he talking about?"

Varin didn't answer immediately.

And that silence—

Said everything.

The Nameless One slowly turned his head toward him.

"…Varin," he said quietly. "Tell me."

Varin's expression hardened, but there was something else there—something reluctant.

"The Sovereign…" he began slowly, "…does not simply destroy power he fears."

The Nameless One's chest tightened.

"He controls it," Varin finished.

The truth settled like a weight.

Heavy.

Unavoidable.

The Nameless One shook his head. "No… I saw it… my parents… they fought him."

"Yes," Varin said. "They did."

"Then how—?"

"Because they were trying to take you away from him."

Silence.

The world seemed to stop.

The Nameless One's mind refused to accept it.

"…No."

The shadows around him began to stir again.

Unstable.

Conflicted.

"I'm not…" his voice trembled. "I'm not his."

The Hunter watched him closely.

"You can deny it all you want," he said. "But your power comes from the same source."

The air grew heavier.

The Nameless One's breathing became uneven.

The voice inside him returned.

"You feel it, don't you?"

The shadow version appeared again in his mind, calm, watching.

"You are connected."

"Stop…" the Nameless One muttered.

"You cannot run from it."

"STOP!"

The shadows exploded outward violently.

A surge of energy ripped through the chamber, forcing Kael and Lyra to step back.

The Nameless One stood at the center, his power flaring wildly.

But this time—

It wasn't just rage.

It was confusion.

Doubt.

Fear.

The Hunter didn't move.

"…Good," he said quietly. "Let it surface."

Varin stepped forward quickly. "Get a hold of yourself," he said sharply. "This is exactly what he wants."

The Nameless One's hands trembled.

His thoughts clashed.

His memories.

His identity.

Everything felt unstable.

"Then tell me!" he shouted. "What am I?!"

Silence filled the chamber.

Varin looked at him directly.

"You are not the Sovereign's weapon," he said firmly. "You are what was meant to surpass it."

The words cut through the chaos.

The shadows flickered.

The Nameless One froze.

"…surpass?" he whispered.

Varin nodded slightly. "That is why they took you. That is why they sealed your power. That is why he wants you back."

The Hunter's expression darkened slightly.

"Enough," he said coldly.

The ground cracked beneath his feet as his energy surged again, stronger than before.

"This ends now."

He moved.

Faster than before.

The Nameless One barely reacted in time, raising his blade as the Hunter's strike collided with him. The impact sent a violent shockwave through the chamber, pushing him back as his feet dragged across the stone floor.

But this time—

He didn't fall.

His grip held.

His eyes sharpened.

The confusion was still there.

The questions remained unanswered.

But one thing became clear.

No matter where his power came from—

It was his.

The shadows responded instantly, stabilizing around him.

Controlled.

Focused.

The Nameless One stepped forward.

"I don't care where it came from," he said, his voice steady now. "I decide what it becomes."

The Hunter's eyes narrowed.

"…Then prove it."

The two forces collided again.

Darkness against darkness.

Power against will.

And this time—

The Nameless One didn't waver.
