Chapter 41 The Characteristics of Spells
This was a long, dimly lit room.
Many stone pillars, carved with coiled serpents, towered high, supporting the ceiling that seemed to melt into the darkness above, casting long, eerie shadows across the room filled with a mysterious, verdant aura.
A statue, as tall as the room itself, was pressed against the dark wall behind it.
However, this statue had an aged, monkey-like face, and a sparse, long beard that almost reached the hem of its stone-carved wizard's robe.
This made the man standing between the statue's legs, amidst the shattered fragments of a chair scattered on the floor, appear somewhat sleazy.
He was clearly well-proportioned, imposing, with black hair and pale skin that, combined with his handsome face, could easily captivate countless young women. His
gentle, clear voice echoed hollowly and loudly through the ghostly shadows on the walls, sounding particularly pleasant.
Suddenly, a column of burning hot air shot up from the upper right side of the back of his head.
A clear male voice followed: "Is this a level two spell?"
The man's wand automatically rose behind him, a flash of green light.
Crack! A piercing explosion echoed where the green light and the air column met.
The man lowered his head and chuckled, "Very good, my lord. A pseudo-level four unlocking spell, enhanced with your mental power. This surpasses a level two spell."
Clearly, it was Basil who unleashed this air column.
In the echo of [Fenrir the Wolf], the only spell card related to attack was the unlocking spell.
Could it be using a healing spell to drain blood?
Its predecessor was an unlocking spell that directly blew away the lock with a beam of light, already showing a tendency towards becoming an attack spell.
Using [Dragon Knight] and [Spellbook], mental power enhanced this +3 unlocking spell.
The intense desire to unlock Riddle, which he saw as a lock on a door, imbued the spell with a power that seemed capable of shattering everything.
Riddle is the man.
A youthful version of Voldemort.
As the first intelligent summon in the [Spellbook], he holds a unique position.
Since the creation of the [Spellbook] cards, he has subconsciously shown unwavering loyalty to Basil and possesses an exceptional understanding of the [Spellbook]'s power.
He even 'remembers' some of the game's mechanics perfectly.
Rather than a summon, he's more like a system spirit.
"My Killing Curse, converted to card level, is level two."
"At this point, I've only just mastered this spell, so it's still quite raw."
Basil questioned, "Even if my spell is pseudo-level four, the corresponding damage is still at the level of a true level four spell. It just lacks the three transformations characteristic. What?"
Riddle replied, "The difference between spells is huge. Level isn't the only criterion for judging strength."
"And you underestimate the characteristics too much."
"Do you remember the four buffs of the 'Clear Water Like a Spring' spell in the game, in the Golden Forbidden Forest and Deadly Hunt?"
"〖Clear Water Like a Pillar〗 Increases the width of the water column by 50%; 〖Clear Water Like a Waterfall〗 Increases the number of water columns by 100% and increases damage by 20%; 〖Clear Water Like a Spear〗 When hitting the same enemy unit, the damage increase is further increased by 20%; 〖Clear Water Like a Barrier〗 Increases damage by 30 and can knock back the target unit."
Hearing these familiar terms, Basil first felt nostalgic, then frowned: "Wait, you mean the traits are equivalent to the buffs in these limited-time dungeons? Are there different qualities for traits: white, blue, purple, and gold? No, maybe there isn't even a purple one."
Riddle nodded, "Actually, the Clear Water Like a Spring spell also has another name: the Water Creation Spell. It's just that its incantation is so easy to remember that it replaced the name. Just like its name, the main purpose of this spell is simply to create water. It deals almost no damage."
"Using the same spell, when you remain excited, change the final, light tap of your wand's swing to a straight thrust forward. You'll find that what appears from your wand is no longer a clear spring of water, but a jet of water capable of shattering a porcelain cup within five feet."
"This is one of the characteristics of an advanced Water-Making Charm."
"Depending on an individual's potential, willpower, and magical power, the resulting characteristics are varied. Even with the same characteristic, the power can differ."
"Perhaps, once your cards reach level two and develop their characteristics, the card stats will indeed show four qualities: white, blue, purple, and gold."
Basil chuckled upon hearing this.
He then thought of another possibility.
"Reality isn't a game. You can't spend money to upgrade trait quality. My spells have a relatively limited number of transformations. If the first trait I create is only of white quality, will the power of subsequent spell upgrades be wasted on upgrading white-quality traits?"
"Should I build a solid foundation like the protagonist in a fantasy novel before upgrading?"
"In other words, in the early stages, I should rely on learning more spells to train my magic power, creating cards, and upgrading the [Spellbook] level for bonuses. Only when I can't suppress it anymore should I upgrade the cards, so that the trait I create will directly reach the highest quality?"
"You just said that reality isn't a game," Riddle said with a smile. "Although I don't have memories of my main body after adulthood, I can vaguely sense that my Killing Curse trait also transformed after creating the Horcrux."
"Traits are a manifestation of the wizard's self. The stronger you are, the stronger it becomes."
"The collapse and deterioration of the self will also change the traits." "
Spells, or magic, originate from our beliefs."
"Adbe Wolfling's 'Theory of Magic,' while accurate, does state that magic is indeed a phenomenon produced by the interaction or independent operation of magical and real magnetic fields."
"But the magical field originates from the wizard, and its operation originates from our hearts. In Muggle terms, it's the fluctuation of electrical signals in the brain."
"In short, you don't need to suppress the instinct for spells to grow."
"Wait," Basil noticed the blind spot, "Spells are alive? What's the difference between a spell and its corresponding spell card?"
"I remember saying that before." Riddle rubbed his forehead in frustration.
"These two are separate. Unless you use cards from the [Spellbook] simultaneously with every spell you cast afterward."
"When casting a spell, the wand and the [Spellbook] are like your two legs when you walk."
"But the difference is, when you 'walk' while casting a spell, you don't need to use both your left and right legs simultaneously. You can walk on one leg at a time."
"Depending on your habits, this will cause the leg you don't use often to become weaker."
"Moreover, their natures are different."
"Spell cards, or rather your cards, you might as well think of them as magical artifacts in fantasy novels. Simply using them will indeed cause them to grow according to the mechanics, but only slightly. That's why you don't have a single level 2 card right now. But when you use them, you infuse them with spiritual power, modifying the released spell. It's like using your mind to refine a magical artifact. This way, it naturally grows faster."
"A spell is like a talisman engraved on the soul. That's why it's also called a talisman. After you hone your intention and form to perfection, it will be engraved in your heart and gradually 'come alive,' absorbing your overflowing spiritual energy to grow. This, in turn, influences you, or rather, makes you more aligned with it. This is why advanced spells, or black and white magic, can affect the mind."
"Upgraded spell cards with special properties simply allow you to use spells with those properties without expending mental effort."
"And the spell corresponding to this spell card doesn't mean it's a level two spell."
"It's like the right leg, which uses less, is inferior to the left leg, which uses more."
"It will certainly grow rapidly as your card reaches true level two, but it won't immediately reach the corresponding level."
