Chapter 15 - Chapter 15 : The Start of the War

In the First Division Captain-Commander's residence, the atmosphere was quiet and solemn.

The air smelled faintly of tea, and sunlight cast mottled shadows across the tatami mats.

Yamamoto sat at the low table, his gaze fixed on Kazuma and Batsu'unsai.

"So, you two have thought it through. You do not plan to marry yet?" Yamamoto's voice was calm, but his inherent authority commanded respect.

His eyes swept over their tightly clasped hands.

Kazuma and Batsu'unsai exchanged a look, their eyes filled with determination.

They took a deep breath and spoke in unison. "Captain-Commander, we have discussed it. We decided to wait until the war with the Quincy is over."

Kazuma squeezed her hand. "At a time like this, we cannot be distracted. We must focus on the enemy. Marriage is important, but protecting the Soul Society takes priority."

Batsu'unsai nodded in agreement.

Her eyes shone with a determined light, silently assuring Yamamoto that they would not be swayed by personal feelings.

Yamamoto listened, inwardly admiring their maturity.

"Very well. Your decision pleases me." Yamamoto stood and walked to the window, looking out at the Seireitei. "The Soul Society needs Captains with your sense of duty. I believe you will unleash your greatest potential in the coming battle."

Kazuma and Batsu'unsai felt a warm current flow through their chests.

Yamamoto had always been their guide, his words acting as a beacon.

"Thank you for your understanding, Captain-Commander. We will not fail you," Kazuma bowed.

Yamamoto waved a hand, gesturing for them to sit.

He picked up his teacup and took a sip. "Go and fight without worry. No matter the outcome, your bond will withstand the test. When the war is over, that will be the time for your true happiness."

The atmosphere in the room shifted from solemn to hopeful. The three exchanged glances, bracing for the impending bloodshed.

"Batsu'unsai, head back to the 8th Division. I have a few tactical matters to discuss with the Captain-Commander."

"Alright. Come back soon."

The two shared a brazen kiss right in front of Yamamoto.

Having confessed their feelings for each other, their actions had become entirely wild.

Yamamoto shuddered with disgust.

The sickeningly sweet atmosphere of young love was nauseating!

Once she left, Kazuma turned back. "Captain-Commander, do we have any actionable intelligence regarding the Quincy? Since Captain Shigyo's death, there have been multiple incidents of Shinigami being slaughtered on routine missions."

"Indeed. These Quincy possess a unique movement technique called Hirenkyaku. This footwork is superior to a Shinigami's Shunpo, putting our standard forces at a severe disadvantage. Furthermore, their movements mask their Reiatsu, making early detection difficult," Yamamoto frowned.

"Can we locate their base of operations? If we destroy their stronghold, we cripple their strength."

"We haven't pinpointed it. However, they operate under a strict hierarchy. We start our investigation with their leader."

"Captain Commander, I've done some digging as well. The leader of the Quincy is a man named Yhwach. He claims to be the Son of the Soul King."

"Yhwach?" A flicker of surprise crossed Yamamoto's eyes. "To claim the title of the Soul King's bloodline is pure arrogance. However, it suggests he possesses extraordinary power. Be careful, Kazuma. I will dispatch Onmitsukidō personnel to assist your investigation. Report to me the moment you discover their stronghold."

Kazuma nodded. "Understood."

After seeing Kazuma out, Yamamoto stood alone by the window.

'This war against the Quincy had to be won, no matter the cost, even if every last Shinigami perished.'

In that moment, Yamamoto revealed his true nature, the ancient killer known as the "Sword Demon" was preparing for a massacre!

...

Meanwhile...

"I have prepared for an all-out war. Negotiations with the Shinigami have broken down. That bastard Ichibē deliberately provoked me during the talks, baiting me into an attack, and used the opportunity to seal my Almighty with the Left Arm of the Soul King. But he paid the price. I seized the Arm from him."

Inside the frozen, magnificent palace of the Lichtreich, Yhwach issued an order to Jugram Haschwalth.

"To avoid any unforeseen variables, I am declaring war on the Soul Society today. We successfully executed a member of the Gotei 13. Our original plan was to slowly wear down their combat strength and clear the path for a full invasion. But it seems the Shinigami are preparing a preemptive strike. Therefore, we strike first."

Yhwach's red eyes burned with absolute authority. "I will personally lead the Sternritter to attack the Seireitei. We will annihilate the Shinigami in a single battle, then proceed to the Soul King Palace to execute that detestable Monk."

"Yes, Your Majesty. I will make the preparations."

...

BOOM!

A deafening explosion rocked the Soul Society.

A massive Heilig Pfeil blasted a crater into the Seireitei's perimeter walls, shattering the impenetrable Sekkiseki stone.

The great war had begun!

"What happened, Chōjirō?" Yamamoto demanded.

Before he could finish the question, Chōjirō appeared, his face pale. "Captain-Commander, the Seireitei wall has been breached. The Quincy have launched an attack! The enemy is already inside the perimeter."

"What?! Damn Quincy! They made the first move!" Yamamoto roared.

He had assumed he could control the pacing of the conflict.

The situation was spiraling out of control.

"Today, I will bury them all here!" Yamamoto's voice was laced with endless killing intent.

The Spiritual Pressure erupting from his body spread across the Seireitei like a surging tidal wave, suffocating the air itself.

Feeling the sheer heat of the Reiatsu, Chōjirō understood the Captain-Commander was enraged to the limit.

"Assemble all Shinigami. Annihilate the invading enemy," Yamamoto commanded.

"Yes, Captain-Commander!" Chōjirō departed to relay the order.

...

On his way back to the 8th Division, Kazuma heard the explosion and felt the unique Reishi fluctuations of the Quincy.

'Something's happened. The Quincy are attacking the Seireitei.'

Kazuma pivoted and headed straight for the Seventh Division barracks.

Kazuma turned and headed for the Seventh Division. "Kotsubaki Ichirō, assemble all Shinigami of the Seventh Division and head to the location of the wall breach. The enemy is attacking."

Arriving back at the Seventh Division, Kazuma issued the order to his Vice-Captain.

"I will go to the scene first. You all follow as quickly as possible."

'Although Captain Satou always has that lackadaisical air about him, he's still quite imposing when he gets serious,' Kotsubaki Ichirō thought, and began to assemble the squad members for departure.

Swoosh!

Kazuma was the first to arrive at the scene.

The bodies of Shinigami and some Quincy already littered the surroundings, the battle had already begun!

Kazuma looked at the enemy before him: a man with long black hair and a beard, a deep and fierce countenance, and red eyes.

He wore three silver medals on each side of his collar and a deep red cloak. Behind him stood about thirty people in white uniforms.

Almost all of them wore long, white, hooded cloaks with the Sternritter Emblem on the back, their identifying feature.

At the breach behind them, a steady stream of ordinary Quincy was still pouring into the Seireitei.

"You must be Yhwach, the leader of the Quincy. I assume these people behind you are the members of your so-called Sternritter," Kazuma said, looking at the man who called himself a god.

Yhwach seemed not to have expected Kazuma to guess his identity so quickly.

He gave Kazuma a surprised glance but regained his composure. "I didn't expect you to know my name. It seems you have some understanding of us Quincy. That's right, I am Yhwach, leader of the Quincy, and these people behind me are the members of the Sternritter. They are all powerful Quincy warriors!"

Hearing Yhwach's words, Kazuma couldn't help but frown.

'Judging from the Spiritual Pressure coming from these Sternritter members, even the weakest had Third-Class Reiatsu.'

Facing him directly gave the illusion of facing Yamamoto himself.

'The terrifying aura he exudes is insane—truly befitting of the last boss in Bleach!'

However, Kazuma did not feel afraid.

Since Yamamoto was able to defeat him in the original story, he believed he could do it too.

Although he wasn't quite on Yamamoto's level yet, he wasn't far off.

Who would win and who would lose could only be known after a fight.

"Hmph, Yhwach, your ambition will not succeed. Today, I will be the one to shatter it!" Kazuma shouted, releasing his own powerful Spiritual Pressure to counter Yhwach's.

Looking at the man in the Captain's Haori before him, Yhwach actually felt a hint of danger and a sense of alarm rose in his heart.

He knew that after the death of the previous captain, the Gotei 13 would appoint a replacement, but he never expected the Soul Society to have another formidable Shinigami on par with Yamamoto.

"Who are you?" Yhwach, for once, set aside his contempt and stared intently at the mysterious man before him, trying to find some clue about him.

"Oh? It seems your intelligence gathering is lacking. Listen up, I am the Captain of the Gotei 13's Seventh Division, Satou Kazuma. The one who will kill you," Kazuma said with a deadpan expression, his hand resting on his Zanpakutō, ready to strike at any moment.

"Insolent!"

The Sternritter shouted in anger, unable to tolerate any Shinigami being so disrespectful to their king.

However, Kazuma was not intimidated by their aura, instead, he appeared even more resolute.

One of the Sternritter members shot forward, launching the first attack on Kazuma.

"Apologize Captain, You'll die here! Listen up, I am the great Ragna (The Roar, designation R)."

Swoosh!

Using Shunpo to dodge the attack, Kazuma didn't even release his Zanpakutō, felling the charging Ragna with a single slash.

Seeing Ragna killed in one blow, the members of the Sternritter snapped out of their rage.

They began to observe Kazuma carefully, realizing that this Shinigami, who had slain Ragna without even releasing his Zanpakutō, possessed unfathomable strength.

Although Ragna's combat power was relatively weak, he was still at a captain-level fighter.

To defeat Ragna so easily meant this Shinigami likely possessed power comparable to their king.

However, their king was the most powerful being, anyone who challenged his authority was destined for doom!

...

At the same time, Yamamoto received news that Kazuma had engaged the enemy.

He summoned the other captains and led them to the battlefield.

Yamamoto knew the importance and danger of this battle. He was determined to go all out and engage the enemy in a life-or-death struggle.

...

Yamamoto arrived on the scene with the other captains.

"Kazuma, you've done well. However, leave the rest to us," Yamamoto said.

Kazuma nodded, sheathing his sword and stepping aside.

"Are you alright?" Batsu'unsai, who had arrived with the group, was the first to show concern for Satou Kazuma's condition.

"I'm fine. You've arrived just in time," Kazuma said, gripping his Zanpakutō tightly as he faced the Quincy before them.

Yamamoto assessed the situation and he turned his gaze to Yhwach.

"Yhwach, today is your last!" Yamamoto roared.

He raised his Zanpakutō and activated his Shikai.

"Ryūjin Jakka!" he bellowed, slashing towards Yhwach first.

In an instant, a sea of flames erupted, illuminating the entire Seireitei.

Kazuma's eyes were firm.

He and the remaining captains drew their Zanpakutō and followed behind Yamamoto.

With that, the war had begun!

The members of the thirteen squads who arrived later also joined the fray one after another.

Their expressions were solemn, their hands gripping their Zanpakutō, ready for the impending battle.

Everyone knew that this war would decide their fate, as well as the future of the entire Soul Society.

...

The intensity of the war gradually escalated.

The two sides exchanged blows, neither giving an inch.

The members of the Gotei 13 coordinated closely, utilizing their individual strengths to engage in a desperate struggle with the enemy.

Every movement was precise and powerful, every slash imbued with endless killing intent.

On this battlefield, there was no mercy or hesitation.

Blood stained the earth, but the morale of the Gotei 13 did not wane.

Under the leadership of Yamamoto and the captains, they believed that as long as they stood united, they could overcome any invading enemy.

In this war, they would ultimately become the winner!
