Edith returned to the palace in the evening, where the attendant in her service immediately informed her that her father had been looking for her throughout the afternoon.
Leaving her purse on a chair, Edith hurried out of her room to see him. Upon reaching his chamber, she found both her father and mother enjoying their evening tea, engrossed in a quiet conversation.
"Good evening, Mom, Dad," she greeted them, bowing respectfully before lowering herself onto the sofa across from their chairs.
"Would you like a cup of tea?" Huxley asked, looking up at his daughter.
"No, thank you. I had some cold coffee while I was out," Edith answered.
Huxley lowered his cup onto the saucer with a soft click. "Your mother and I have been discussing this for a long time. We decided that once Gideon was married, we would begin searching for a perfect groom for you."
"What?" Edith exclaimed in shock, her eyes darting instantly to her mother, who looked completely relaxed about the announcement.
