Chapter 4 - Who is...?

And when the knife was about to make contact with her skin, someone threw the flash grenade, it was Leo. He had stolen it from one of their pockets. When the assassin's opened their eyes, Eleanor and Leo already vanished.

Meanwhile outside, they're standing yards away from the warehouse. The silence was so thin that you could cut it with a knife "So... we got nothing..." Leo glanced at Eleanor.

Eleanor glanced back at him and wipes blood from her cheek as Leo lead her back to the car.

While Leo was driving, Eleanor glanced out the window and saw a 2-story building.

The memory of the name 'Megan' flashed before her eyes, "Who is...?" Eleanor thinks.

"Is something wrong?" Leo gives her a quick look, a curious look before focusing on the road.

"Nothing personal." Eleanor said firmly.

When they reached the exit of the district, Eleanor speaks up, "Stop the car, Leo."

"Is there any problem?"

"I said, stop the car, Detective Saunders." Eleanor said with a bit more sternly.

Leo hint of confusion flashed across his face, "Okay."

Leo stopped the car and Eleanor stepped out.

Leo had to wait 25 minutes before Eleanor re-entered the car.

"So what, Miss Williams?" Leo turns to Eleanor.

"The Alderburys are a bit complex." Eleanor said with a detached voice.

"Tell me something new." Leo's signature smirk returned.

"We have a case to solve, by the way. Now, are you starting the wheel or should I have to?"

Eleanor's words only made Leo's smirk widen, "I would take the honour to drive for you."

When they returned to the office, Leo received a phone call from Adrian Alderbury, he called Leo for a meeting, to get the update on the case progress. Leo took the file and Eleanor was holding and started heading towards the meeting room, Eleanor was following him closely behind and said, "What are you–" but Leo already got into the meeting room.

Adrian Alderbury looks up at Leo and said, "Please..." and gestures towards the seat for Leo to sit. After Leo settled down on the seat, Adrian leaned forward with just, "Update?"

The room was tense.

"All the evidence... it's gone?" Sebastian demanded.

Leo flipped through the files again.

Empty.

Missing pages. Broken chain of proof.

His jaw tightened.

"Then we'll have to assign another investigator," Theodore said coldly.

Silence.

Leo didn't look up.

But something in him shifted.

"It's okay," Eleanor said lightly. "At least we'll get someone who can help—"

"Don't you think I'm enough?"

The words came out low. Too low...

Leo looked up slowly.

His eyes didn't match his tone.

"I'm more than enough for this case."

The room fell silent.

Eleanor froze for a fraction of a second.

There it was again.

That same edge.

"-"

Leo blinked.

Just like that, the tension snapped—

"I-I deeply apologize, Miss Williams. I got a bit carried out. I-I-I mean... please. I have anger issues."

Eleanor inhaled... and then she nodded slowly, "Anger Issues aren't like this, Mr. Saunders."
