Predator Instinct
Ash stepped outside into the rain.
The cold didn't bother him anymore.
Not after everything his body had become.
Behind him, Elena followed—still adjusting, still unstable, but already different from before. Her movements were sharper now. Her senses more alert.
She was no longer just a survivor.
She was evolving.
Ash glanced at her briefly.
"Status."
She blinked, confused.
"What?"
"Focus," Ash said. "You'll see it."
Elena closed her eyes.
A few seconds passed.
Then her expression changed.
"I… I can see something…"
"Read it."
"Level… 8…"
Her voice trembled slightly.
"I was level 5 before…"
Ash nodded.
As expected.
His blood didn't just strengthen.
It elevated.
"What else?"
She swallowed.
"My… reflexes… feel faster… and I think…"
She hesitated.
"Say it."
"…I can sense you."
Ash's eyes narrowed slightly.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
He turned away.
"Good. That means it worked."
Elena looked at him, confusion mixed with awe.
"Worked? What exactly did you do to me?"
Ash didn't stop walking.
"I gave you purpose."
That answer only confused her more.
But she didn't question him again.
Because deep down—
She understood something had changed.
Not just her strength.
But her place.
Ahead of them, movement stirred in the shadows.
Three figures.
Zombies.
But different.
Faster.
Their bodies were more intact.
Their eyes sharper.
Ash stopped.
A faint smile formed.
"Perfect."
The creatures lunged forward instantly.
Fast.
Too fast for a normal human.
But Ash wasn't normal anymore.
His body moved before the attack even reached him.
A step to the side.
A twist of his torso.
His hand shot forward—
Crack.
The first zombie's neck snapped instantly.
Before its body hit the ground—
Ash had already moved.
The second one lunged.
Ash didn't dodge.
He stepped forward.
His knee drove upward—
Shattering the creature's jaw.
Then his hand struck down—
Piercing straight through its skull.
The third one hesitated.
For just a second.
That was its mistake.
Ash's body blurred forward.
His hand closed around its head—
And crushed it.
Silence.
Three bodies dropped.
Elena stood frozen.
Her heart was racing.
That wasn't a fight.
That was domination.
Ash turned slightly.
"Your turn next time."
Her eyes widened.
"…I can't do that."
"You will."
His voice left no room for doubt.
Elena clenched her fists.
She looked at the bodies.
Then back at him.
"…Then teach me."
Ash nodded once.
"That's why you're here."
And as the rain continued to fall—
A predator was no longer alone.
