A tingling sensation of a gentle brush on my hair woke me up. As soon as I opened my eyes, I saw Abi's face. She was looking down at me with a look of amusement. A very, very slight hint of a cheeky grin at one corner of her lips. When our eyes met, she blinked, and a kind, warm smile spread across her face, which seemed to glow in the dimly lit room.
"Abi…?"
"Hi, sweetie."
With the warmth of her touch, caressing my cheeks, I thought this was the best way to wake up.
"Thank you for coming," I told her.
"You are always welcome," she said.
When I tried to get up, she put her hand behind my back—being careful not to hurt my neck—and expertly helped me up.
"What time is it now?" I asked her.
"Just after five."
"Oh, I overslept."
"It's okay."
"Did you wait long?"
"It's okay."
I felt guilty, remembering that Brian told me earlier that Abi would come around 3 PM. She must have waited for two hours for me.
