Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: The God of the Sky

April 10th, 2026.

The global scientific community was in a state of absolute chaos. Every major laboratory on the planet was currently replicating Xavier's 'Thornium-1' superconductor. The "Energy Crisis" that had loomed over the 21st century was solved in a single afternoon.

But while the world celebrated, Xavier was in the sub-basement of the Thorne Tower, staring at a countdown.

"Master," Valkyrie's voice resonated through the lead-lined walls. "The 'Global Satellite Initiative' (GSI) has reached a stalemate. Every aerospace company—SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Arianespace—has rejected our launch contracts. They claim 'scheduling conflicts,' but my analysis shows a 99.4% probability they have been threatened by the Volkov Network."

"Of course they have," Xavier said, adjusting a pair of haptic gloves. "Marcus doesn't want me to have the high ground. In 2050, he controlled the orbital lasers that kept the population in check. He knows that whoever owns the sky, owns the future."

Claire walked in, holding a stack of tablets. "Xavier, we have 1,000 'Valkyrie-Class' satellites sitting in a warehouse, and no way to get them into orbit. We're being choked out."

Xavier turned to her, a dangerous spark in his eyes. "We don't need their rockets, Claire. Rockets are just expensive fireworks. They're 19th-century tech trying to solve 21st-century problems."

"Then how do we get them up there?"

Xavier pointed to the center of the Thorne Tower. The skyscraper wasn't just an office building. Its core was a hollow, reinforced shaft lined with 'Thornium' superconductors.

"We aren't going to launch from a pad," Xavier said. "We're going to use the Lennard-Mass Driver. We're going to shoot them into space using a vacuum-sealed electromagnetic railgun built into the spine of this building."

The Impossible Launch

2:00 AM.

The city was asleep, but the Thorne Tower was drawing enough power from the city's newly 'superconducted' grid to light up a small country.

In the penthouse, Xavier stood before a panoramic window. Below him, the 'Mass Driver' was humming with a sound that vibrated in the very marrow of his bones.

"Valkyrie, initialize Vacuum Seal. Charge the rails to 500 million Amps."

[VALKYRIE]: Warning. The electromagnetic signature will be visible to every spy satellite on the planet. Marcus Volkov will have a direct lock on our location.

"Let him look," Xavier growled. "I want him to see his extinction event."

Suddenly, every screen in the Thorne Tower turned blood-red. A pixelated face appeared—distorted, but the cold, calculating eyes were unmistakable.

"Xavier," the voice hissed. It was deeper now, filtered through a dozen layers of encryption. "Building a space-gun in the middle of a city? You've become desperate. If you fire that weapon, the G-force will shred your satellites into dust. You've forgotten the basic laws of physics."

"No, Marcus," Xavier said, looking directly into the camera. "I just discovered new ones. You're still thinking in 'Newtonian' mechanics. I'm playing with 'Quantum-Inertia'."

Xavier hit the manual override.

THOOM.

The entire skyscraper groaned. A streak of white-hot light erupted from the roof of the Thorne Tower, piercing the clouds and disappearing into the atmosphere in less than a second.

It wasn't just one.

THOOM. THOOM. THOOM.

Every ten seconds, a new satellite was launched, encased in a 'Friction-Less Kinetic Shell'. By the time the military jets scrambled to investigate, fifty satellites were already in Low Earth Orbit.

The Face-Slap: The Global Reveal

The Next Morning. UN General Assembly Special Session.

The world's leaders were gathered to discuss the 'Thorne Anomaly.' Standing at the podium was the Secretary of Global Tech, a man named Viktor Drago.

"Xavier Thorne is a rogue actor," Drago shouted to the assembly. "He has launched unregistered kinetic weapons into orbit. He is a threat to global—"

Suddenly, the giant screens behind the Secretary flickered.

Xavier Thorne appeared, sitting comfortably in his office, a cup of coffee in his hand.

"Sorry to interrupt the fear-mongering, Mr. Secretary," Xavier said, his voice echoing in the hall. "Or should I call you by your real name? Subject 004 from the Aether Corp neural-link experiments?"

The Secretary froze. His face went pale.

"I've just activated the 'Valkyrie Shield'," Xavier continued. "Right now, every person on Earth has access to a new, free, 10-Gigabit satellite internet. No censorship. No firewalls. And most importantly... no control by people like you."

"You can't do this!" Drago screamed. "We will shoot them down!"

"Try it," Xavier challenged. "My satellites are equipped with RTSC-magnetic shielding. Your missiles will slide off them like water off a duck's back. But while you're trying to destroy them, the world is currently downloading the 'Drago Files'—every bribe you've taken, every secret offshore account, and your direct communications with the Volkov Network."

On the screens, thousands of documents began to scroll. The gallery erupted in shouts and gasps. Within minutes, security guards—not to protect Drago, but to arrest him—swarmed the stage.

Xavier looked into the camera, his gaze piercing through the screen.

"The era of secrets is over. The era of Thorne has begun. Marcus... I know you're watching. That was just the prologue."

The Twist: The Enemy Within

Back at the tower, Claire was cheering. "We did it! The internet is free, and Drago is in handcuffs! We're the heroes of the century!"

Xavier didn't join in. He was staring at the 'Mass Driver' diagnostic.

"Valkyrie," he said, his voice low. "Why is the internal temperature of the rails still rising? The launch is over."

[VALKYRIE]: Master... I did not authorize a new launch. But something is moving through the shaft. It is not a satellite.

Xavier's blood ran cold. He realized the trap.

"The satellites weren't just a shield," Xavier whispered. "They were a Conductor."

He looked out the window. The fifty satellites in orbit weren't moving in their assigned paths. They were forming a perfect geometric shape directly above the city. A Lens.

"Marcus didn't try to stop the launch," Xavier said, his heart hammering. "He helped me launch them. He hijacked the 'Valkyrie' code during the stress of the launch."

Suddenly, a beam of pure, focused solar energy—a 'Sol-Laser'—shot down from the sky, hitting the roof of the Thorne Tower.

The building didn't explode. It began to glow.

"He's using my own satellites to turn this building into a microwave," Xavier shouted. "Claire! Get to the lead-shielded bunker! Now!"

[VALKYRIE]: INCOMING MESSAGE FROM MARCUS VOLKOV: "Checkmate, Xavier. You built the cage. I just turned on the electricity.
