Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: The Abyssal Hunt

April 16, 2026. The Thorne Tower — Sub-Level 4.

The world outside was screaming. On every television screen and holographic billboard from New York to London, the headline was the same: "The Tokyo Vanishing: Is Xavier Thorne a Terrorist or a God?"

The Global Security Council had issued an international arrest warrant. They claimed Xavier had used his "Valkyrie" satellites to abduct the world's elite. It was a perfect move by Marcus Volkov—use the disappearance of his own puppets to turn the entire planet against the only man who could stop him.

"Master," Valkyrie's voice was sharp, cutting through the red-alert klaxons in the lab. "The US Seventh Fleet and the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force are converging on our coordinates. They have orders to 'neutralize' the tower if you do not surrender within the hour."

Xavier didn't even look at the radar. He was standing in front of a massive, 200-foot-long cylinder of black, matte-finished 'Thornium'. It didn't look like a submarine; it looked like a giant, serrated needle designed to stab the ocean floor.

"Let them converge," Xavier said, his voice terrifyingly calm. "Claire, have you moved the 'Thorne-Health' servers to the satellite backup?"

"Everything is decentralized, Xavier," Claire said, her face pale but her hands steady on the controls. "But if we stay here, they'll turn this tower into a graveyard. We have nowhere to go."

"We aren't going away, Claire," Xavier said, stepping toward the black vessel. "We're going down."

The Face-Slap: The Ghost Fleet

2:15 PM. Tokyo Bay.

Three destroyers and an aircraft carrier sat three miles off the coast, their railguns pointed directly at the shattered penthouse of the Thorne Tower.

"Target locked," the tactical officer on the USS Ronald Reagan announced. "Awaiting final authorization from the Council."

Suddenly, every screen on the carrier's bridge went black. Then, a single line of text appeared in neon violet:

[SYSTEM OVERRIDE: PROPERTY OF THORNE DYNAMICS]

"What? My bridge is locked!" the Admiral roared. "Manual override! Fire the guns!"

"Sir, the guns aren't responding!" the weapons officer shouted. "The... the targeting sensors are showing that the Thorne Tower isn't there anymore. It's showing a... a hole in the ocean?"

On the ocean surface, right in front of the fleet, the water began to boil. But it wasn't heat; it was Cavitational Displacement.

The black needle—the Nautilus-X—burst from the surface, not to fly, but to mock them. It sat there for exactly five seconds. Then, a voice broadcasted over every military radio frequency in the Pacific.

"This is Xavier Thorne," the voice boomed. "You are looking for the missing leaders. You won't find them in my tower. You'll find them at 11,000 meters below sea level, in a cage built by Marcus Volkov. If you want them back, stay out of my way. If you fire a single shot, I'll turn your entire fleet into a series of very expensive anchors."

Before the Admiral could even speak, the Nautilus-X didn't just sink—it imploded into the depths. It used a Super-Cavitating Drive that created a bubble of air around the hull, allowing it to travel through water at the speed of a jet engine.

In ten seconds, the sonar signatures vanished. The world's most powerful fleet was left chasing a ghost.

The Descent: Into the Hades Zone

Inside the Nautilus-X, the G-force was neutralized by the 'Thornium' inertial dampeners. Xavier sat in the command chair, his eyes fixed on the bathymetric scans.

"Valkyrie, depth report."

[VALKYRIE]: 5,000 meters... 7,000 meters... Master, we are entering the Hadal Zone. External pressure is 10,000 PSI. The 'Aether-Ark' signal is strengthening. It is located in the Challenger Deep, hidden inside a thermal vent.

"Uncle," Lucian said, standing at the port-side monitor. "My father didn't just build a base. He built a Bio-Reactor. He's using the leaders' DNA to stabilize the 'Chimera' serum on a global scale. If we don't stop the 'Injection' in the next four hours, the world won't need a shadow government. They'll all be part of his 'Hive-Mind'."

Xavier's grip tightened on the armrest. In 2050, the 'Hive-Mind' was how Marcus finally won. He didn't kill his enemies; he simply 'merged' them into his consciousness.

"He thinks the pressure is his shield," Xavier whispered. "He thinks no 2026 hull can withstand a 'Magnetic-Crush' at this depth."

Suddenly, the Nautilus-X jolted. The lights flickered red.

[VALKYRIE]: Warning! We are being targeted by 'Aether-Torpedos'. These are not standard explosives; they are 'Vortex-Charges' designed to collapse our cavitation bubble.

"Xavier!" Claire screamed. "There are twelve signatures! They're coming from the trench walls!"

Xavier didn't panic. He hit a sequence on his haptic gloves.

"Valkyrie, initialize 'Hydro-Static Pulse'. If Marcus wants to play with the ocean, let's show him who owns the water."

The Nautilus-X didn't fire back. Instead, the entire hull began to vibrate at a frequency that matched the surrounding water molecules.

THOOM.

A massive, invisible wave of kinetic energy rippled outward from the ship. The incoming torpedos didn't explode—they shattered under the sudden pressure shift, their internal electronics crushed by the very water they swam in.

"Deploy the 'Seeker-Drones'," Xavier commanded. "I want a visual on the Ark. And tell Marcus... I'm coming for my leaders. And I'm bringing the bill for the Tokyo repairs."

The Reveal: The Golden City of the Deep

As the Nautilus-X rounded a massive underwater cliff, the darkness of the trench was suddenly illuminated.

It wasn't a bunker. It was a City.

A massive, bioluminescent dome made of reinforced 'Aether-Glass' sat nestled in the volcanic vents. Inside, skyscrapers rose from the ocean floor, and swarms of 'Chimera' guards in aquatic exoskeletons patrolled the perimeter.

"The Aether-Ark," Lucian whispered, horror in his voice. "He didn't just build it. He's already started the New World."

At the center of the city, a massive holographic projection of Marcus Volkov appeared, towering over the dome.

"Welcome home, Xavier," the hologram smiled. "You're just in time for the first 'Global Update'. Would you like to be the first to join the Mind?
