The second-half whistle pierced the night air like a starting gun. The Galaxy Youth players jogged out of the tunnel with fresh fire in their eyes. Alex Rivera led the line, chest still heaving from the first-half battle. In the main stands, Coach Victor Morales and Captain Marco "El Rey" Delgado remained standing, arms crossed, eyes locked on the No. 10 wearing the white-and-blue kit. The first-team coach had not sat down since Alex's second goal. Delgado leaned over and muttered something to him. Morales nodded slowly, never taking his eyes off the pitch.
Alex glanced up once, heart pounding.
They're watching. The captain told him about me. This is the moment the promotion path opens. I died watching legends on a couch in 2024. Tonight I become the one they can't ignore.
The blue system screen flashed silently in front of his eyes.

Galaxy kicked off.
47'
Alex dropped deep immediately, calling for the ball. Diego slid it into his feet. Three San Jose players closed him down like wolves. Alex performed a quick step-over with his right foot, then another, shifting the ball between both feet at lightning speed. The defenders hesitated. He exploded with Phantom Shadow Dribble — the after-image flickered, freezing the nearest midfielder. Alex burst past him and played a sharp ground pass into the channel for Marcus Hayes. Marcus took it in stride and crossed low. The keeper punched it away, but the danger was clear.
The commentator's voice rose over the speakers: "Rivera starts the second half with intent! That dribble looked impossible — the first-team coach is nodding. Galaxy are coming!"
51'
San Jose tried to kill the momentum with a long ball. Lucas "El Toro" Vargas won the aerial duel and charged toward the box. Alex tracked back 35 yards at full sprint, lungs burning. He timed a perfectly clean sliding tackle, winning the ball and immediately launching the counter. The crowd roared. Coach Morales leaned forward, whispering to Delgado again.
54'
Galaxy won a free-kick 28 yards out, slightly left of centre. The stadium held its breath. Alex stood over the ball, eyes scanning the wall. He took three short steps, planted his left foot, and whipped his right foot through the ball with perfect technique. The ball curled viciously over the wall, kissing the inside of the far post before nestling into the top corner.
3–3
The stadium exploded. Teammates sprinted from everywhere and piled on top of Alex. Diego screamed in his ear, "That's world-class, Ace!" Marcus jumped on his back. The commentator lost his mind: "Rivera levels it with a stunning free-kick! From 0-3 down to 3-3! The Inglewood kid is turning this game on its head right in front of the first-team coach!"
In the stands, Coach Victor Morales stood up fully, clapping slowly. Captain Delgado grinned and slapped the coach's shoulder. "Told you, Coach. The kid has it."
Alex pulled the ball out of the net himself, running back to the centre circle without celebration. His face was stone.
One more. Just one more and the promotion talk starts tonight.
58'
San Jose kicked off angrily, trying to regain control. They pinged the ball around their backline, looking for a way through. Alex pressed high with the front line, forcing a rushed pass. Mateo "The Wall" Rivera tried to clear it long, but Alex intercepted with God's First Touch — the ball stuck to his boot like glue. He spun away from two defenders in one motion and played a no-look pass to Diego. The move drew gasps from the crowd.
62'
Galaxy built patiently. Alex dropped into the pocket again. Three San Jose players closed him down. He used a series of body feints, shifting his shoulders left then right, before triggering Phantom Shadow Dribble twice in quick succession. The after-images left defenders lunging at thin air. He slipped the ball through the legs of one player and surged into the box. The last defender slid in desperately. Alex dragged the ball back with the sole of his foot, spun 180 degrees, and smashed a low drive into the bottom corner with the outside of his right boot.
4–3 Galaxy Youth
The stadium went absolutely wild. Fireworks of noise erupted. Teammates mobbed him again. Diego lifted him off the ground. The commentator was hoarse: "Rivera does it again! From 0-3 down to 4-3 up! That dribble and finish was pure magic. Coach Morales is smiling now — this kid just forced his way onto the first-team radar!"
In the stands, Coach Morales turned to Delgado and spoke clearly enough that nearby fans overheard: "Get him training with us next week. We need that creativity up top."
67' – 78'
The game became a war of attrition. San Jose threw everything forward, desperate to equalize. Lucas Vargas nearly scored twice — once with a powerful header that the keeper tipped over, and once with a low shot that Alex blocked with his body. Every time San Jose attacked, Alex dropped back, won tackles, and restarted the play. His stamina never dropped. The Enhanced Physicality skill kept him moving at full speed while others began to tire.
81'
San Jose won a corner. The ball swung in dangerously. Alex rose highest at the near post and headed it clear with power. He immediately started a counter, beating two players with quick changes of direction. The crowd chanted his name: "Ace! Ace! Ace!"
85'
Galaxy controlled possession. Alex dictated the tempo from the No. 10 role, dropping deep, spraying passes, and pulling defenders out of position. Every touch drew applause. The system chimed again.

Final whistle.
Final Score: LA Galaxy Youth 4 – 3 San Jose Earthquakes Academy
The Galaxy players erupted. They ran to Alex, lifting him onto their shoulders. Diego screamed, "You're the king, Ace!" Marcus and Lucas piled on. The entire bench rushed the pitch. Coach Harlan hugged him hard. "You just changed your life tonight, kid."
In the stands, Coach Victor Morales and Captain Marco Delgado stood clapping. Morales turned to Delgado and said loud enough for nearby reporters to hear: "Tell the academy director — Rivera starts training with the first team on Monday. We need that kind of fight."
The media swarm hit the moment Alex stepped off the pitch. Cameras flashed. Microphones thrust forward.
"Alex Rivera, you came back from 0-3 down to win 4-3 with two second-half goals — one a world-class free-kick. How does it feel knowing the first-team coach was watching?"
Alex kept his voice steady, sweat dripping. "It feels like the team believed in each other. I'm just happy we fought until the end."
Another reporter pushed in: "The mystery blonde rumors are everywhere now. Any comment on the photos circulating after your last match?"
Alex's face stayed neutral. "My focus is football. Everything else stays private."
He walked toward the tunnel, but his phone was already exploding. One text from Emma stood out:
"Saw the comeback on the live stream. You were insane. When you're free… come to my place. Parents are away again. I'll make sure you forget every camera."
Alex allowed himself one small smile as he disappeared into the tunnel.
The promotion path had just cracked wide open.
