Chapter 18 - The Clash Between Shadow and Light (3): Jin vs The Nightmare

A faint green aura glowed around Jin. The black spears hovered mid-air around him. He raised his left arm in that instant, and they leaped toward the evolved beast. They struck it, but there was no sign of blood; instead, strange purplish sigils formed in its arms.

"Hah…At least now I can have a fair right," Jin said as he took hold of his breathing. The strange ability of his drained a lot of spirit energy.

The beast charged toward him, its fist now taking a form of frost. Cold mist hissed in the air as it coiled around that monstrous arm. The beast's eyes glowed in a violent hue.

"Frost…that's a tricky ability to deal with, but" Jin let out a sigh, encountering an unusual ability. The frost could freeze the area around him, and in a battle against a monster of S-ranked caliber, the environmental abilities were the hardest to deal with. It wouldn't only hit him, but alongside the place he'd get hit, Frost would freeze him.

Fraaaww!

A lightning-fast strike came toward Jin.

But it missed by a wide margin as Jin had ducked before it could hit him.

"Heed my call, Shadow Spears!" Jin shouted.

In that instant, the shadowy spears glowed red, and instead of attacking the beast, they leaped toward Jin and took a whole different form. They expanded around him and covered him in the shape of armor. On his left hand, a solid dark shield formed, while on the right, a long, black sword appeared. He had taken a whole different form.

"Gyaahh!!"

The beast let out an ear-hammering roar and threw a devastating strike.

In response, Jin merely raised his shield.

BOOOOM!!!

A deafening strike tore through the air itself.

That strike threatened to shatter the black shield itself, but it merely made a dent. It was odd before the beast was stronger than Jin, but now it appeared they were equal.

"Finally its working," Jin chuckled as he looked at those purple sigils he had placed on the body of the beast. Every time the beast struck Jin, the purple sigils would coil around the beast.

It was simple. Jin had placed a curse ability, which had just one effect: whoever Jin struck with the purple sigils, their strength would become the same level as Jin's. It was, without a doubt, a world-breaking ability. Even if Jin faced an entity beyond SSS+ rank, he'd still survive because of this sole ability he possessed.

"It's bad…I have to finish it fast," Jin's hand that gripped the black blade.

Yes, Jin had a world-breaking ability, but he was only a B-ranked; he couldn't maintain the sigils for a long time.

"!5 minutes…no 10 minutes. I have to finish it while it's weak." Jin's expression darkened as realization struck. As confirming that out of 10 purple sigils, one vanished like smoke. As if it had never existed.

The beast stirred its body as if the restrictions were weakening. Jin no longer had the luxury to play it safe. He had to finish it; it would be a disaster for him. If the timer were to wear out, it won't restrict the beast any longer, and when that happened, Jin would face the full-powered beast. Without any restriction exerting its true capabilities.

Without warning, a crushing pressure descended on the battlefield. He was gambling everything on the next 10 minutes, not caring what happened to his body.

The aura around Jin's black blade condensed, and overwhelming spirit energy started to coil around it violently. With each passing second, Jin's heart ached.

Slash!

Frost struck against Black Metal.

Swooosh!!

The clash caused catastrophic damage across the battlefield.

Stones rubles were scattering around as a result of the clash between Jin and the Beast.

The monstrous arm struck Jin.

Jin had his mind on the timer, didn't see the strike coming, and paid the price the hard way.

The strike sent him hurling far away. Blood dripped.

Jin had received a dangerous strike, now kneeling, but he didn't have the luxury of the monstrous, armed appearance before his face. Jin had barely any time to dodge the strike and was sent crashing against the battlefield itself.

"I don't have time," Jin's mind raced.

The fifth purple sigils glowed with ominous light, and smoke formed in the place and dissolved in the air. Now only 5 more sigils remain.

"Black shadow." The shadows that defended him fell from his body. It hovered overhead, Jin. Jin no longer cared about defense. The armour wasn't doing anything to help with his pain, so Jin abandoned the idea of defense, going full offense.

Red aura glowed from his body. Now his sword glowed with a dark green aura. His body was at its limit. Any minute, he could fall.

"Blackhole Strike." A strange black aura radiated from his blade. The aura was so ominous that it shocked the sky itself. The clouds had vanished from the air itself. The sky was clear. It has now revealed the horror of the darkest hour the youths faced. The professor didn't have any idea that was happening far east of the academy.

"Wish…I had a bankai," Jin chuckled. Despite his grave situation, his smile didn't falter in the least, but it only intensified. It was as if he was enjoying the clash. But it was odd that Jin was supposed to be a weak, cowardly boy who couldn't stand against his bullies, then how?

It was simple; Jin had a twisted personality. People, Jin didn't deem worthy or interested in, he didn't bother to fight back. But this situation was different. He was facing creatures beyond his own strength, and this made Jin excited.

Jin gathered a huge amount of energy and focused all of it on his blade only. No defense. Only offense.

Silence screamed. Total stillness. No one moved.

Then, without a warning, Jin leaped, and his blade was coiled with a huge amount of spirit energy. The aura itself reached the sky itself. Threatening to tear itself.

SLASHHH!

Jin slashed the blade deep in that beast's chest where the heart resided.

The beast fell, and a black pool of blood formed.

"This bastard was tough. Finally its dead," Jin spoke. In that instance, his body fell, and he was on his knees, both hands on his knees. He couldn't move anymore.

But a roaring sound erupted from the direction where that beast was.

Gray smoked came from the beast. Then he stood to its feat. Now much stronger.
