Chapter 9 - The Child of Hope (2) : To save a friend

Today was their theory class, and once again, Raelith was late. These days, Raelith was out of himself as if suddenly he had become a different person. Occasionally, he would pace out, forget things, and everything about him seemed disoriented. He wasn't paying much attention, and he barely interacted with Ed and Evans. The scarlet hair of his seemed to become paler each day as if something was draining that trait from him.

'Its bad, I must find a way.' Dark circles formed under Ed's eye clear sign of lack of sleep and overwork. In the past days, Ed tried his best, he even requested from the academy wanting one-months leave so he could research and cure his friend. Today was the result of his appeal. Whether he would gain it or not entirely depends on Luna, the head professor, a former war veteran.

"I hear you will be leaving the academy for a month?" Evans asked, narrowing his brows, leaning on the nearby pillar.

"Yeah, but I don't know weather i'll get approval or not," Ed complained, worry clearly visible.

While the students were talking, the professor was tampering with something. It was an old man; he was in his late 60s, with light brown hair, while some white was visible, a clear sign of aging. He had purple eyes and wore a red scale-like sturdy armor.

"Ahem!" The old man coughed everyone in the room to hear as if drawing attention.

"My name is Gist Hawk, I'm your theory-class professor," Gist said.

"Today we will discuss Spirit Energy," as the gist said those words, purple celestial ors materialized in mid-air.

"Does any of you have any knowledge about the Spirit Energy?" He asked, looking at the students.

Hands rose.

Exactly three hands, and surprisingly, Ed knew one of them was Evans, and the other two he didn't recognize, as he hardly interacted outside his dorm mate.

"Yes, you," Gist said as he pointed at Evans to explain.

"The Spirit energy is the source we draw powers from. Almost every being is born with that trait, ones Spirit Energy rank is decided upon their birth." Evans paused and took a moment, then continued.

"They cannot be changed, no matter how much rank one may ascend," Evans said.

"You're correct, but you said their spirit energy cannot chane right?" Gist spoke.

"Yes, is it not right that everyone knows the shackles of Spirit Energy cannot be broken?" Evans asks.

"When a person ascends beyond SSS+ rank, can they shatter those chains of limit itself?" Gist smiled; a knowing one.

"Isn't that just a myth?" This time, Jin asked.

"Well its not a myth, child. People think of it as a myth because in the past 100 years, no one ever entered the realm of SSS+ except one man." Gist said as he manipulated his spirit energy as he floated.

"The Hero of the War of Titan, who disappeared when humanity won the war. No one knows his name or identity; we only know his voice. But that voice wasn't grand or heroid it was dread itself," Gist said.

Clang Clang!!!

The bell rang, signaling that the class was over.

"It appears my time here is over. See you next time, kids, haha," Gist laughed as he went outside the room.

"Gist, aren't you revealing too much to mere children?" A man with shadowy clothes emerged from Gist's shadows, his face hidden. Only his clothes were visibled that man spoke with musement.

"Someone like you wouldn't get it. Your filth and vileness disgust me!!!" Gist shouted, veins bulging in his forehead, his eyes shot blood red. A sign of hatred and disgust toward that man. But who was that man? What relation did they have? Who knows.

All the classes were over.

Ed was headed toward his dorm room when, from within the shadows, a man with purple wavy hair and black eyes, wearing white robes, appeared before Ed.

"You have been granted your one-month leave," The man said.

"Thanks a lot, I'm truly grateful," Ed bowed.

"Say that to Lady Luna, not me, I'm just a messenger only!!" The man laughed.

The messengers were people who worked in the shadows in the academy. There was no news they had no knowledge about within the academy, and they were the personal gatekeepers of the academy who worked under Luna. Of course, Luna knew everything that too Ed was the one who defeated the demonic entity who took over Azek, and Ed devoured his soul!!!.

It was morning,g and the sun hadn't ascended yet. The portal was ready where he would need to go. In these past weeks, Ed immersed himself in the academy library and gained lots of knowledge about souls, demonic energy, and such, and he had his answer on where he could find a cure for Raelith.

"Evans…Jin, what are you doing here this early in the morning?" Ed spoke in astonishment. He wasn't prepared to encounter his dorm-mate and had planned to leave before anyone noticed, as he felt that kind of farewell, goodbyes awkward.

"Without saying goodbye and leaving, don't you think that's kind of rude?" Jin shot his gaze as he took a step forward. Jin was annoyed with Ed's behavior.

"Well…umm," Ed didn't know what to say.

"Do whatever, Ed, but don't die there. I feel tragedies, evil energy always tend of follow you," Evans spoke. That exact word made Ed widen his eyes in shock.

"How? How do you know Evans?" Ed asked in confusion.

"Who do you think I'm Ed?"

"Well, a mage?" Ed said.

"Nope, Its a celestial mage shithead!!" Evans cursed.

"You thought you could pretend nothing was wrong when you have dark circles under your eyes, you zone out whenever Raelith is present?" Evans shot back. Evans had really high Spirit Energy sensivity and he had advanced observation, which was abnormal for the norm, but it was Evans.

Ed still didn't know his true potential. To top it of Evans had that strange ethereal black serpent carving which was another enigma,

"Yeah, I apologize, take care of Raelith." Ed understood he no longer could persuade Evans, and so he gave up.

"I'll see you in a month," Evans said

Ed only waved his hands, and the portal swallowed his form completely. That time, Ed didn't know where he was headed, but it would later be called 'The Graves of Abominations'
