Kiri Don asked Ash Quarter for twenty-eight names.
Boro Tann gave her his own and turned the tram-depot camera toward the service tunnel. Each resident answered from the place where they stood. Mevi Durr kept the right firebreak release. Boro kept the left. Eleven tram workers remained under the timbered carriage roof.
Kiri returned forty-three names from the far trench. Some came from beds. Two came from the broken water line. A child shouted hers from inside a cooking shelter and had to repeat it after a pan fell.
Neither list crossed the collar.
"Can your people enter our depot?" Boro asked.
Kiri tested the pale plate with a hanging wrench. The wrench passed halfway into Ash Quarter, then stopped at its handle.
"Objects can share the opening," she said. "Bodies have no tested route."
Boro touched neither release.
The carrier closed one joint around the South Bank apartment floor. Force entered the old firebreak line and reached both groups at once.
