Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: Conflicts Under the Twin Cities

Carrying his excitement, Durin took the elevator back to the lower levels of Zaun and walked straight towards Third Avenue, preparing to go to Mage Kreslin's residence for work.

However, from the public elevator to Third Avenue, one had to pass through a street, which was the red-light district, where the entire street was filled with pleasure houses. The women inside were all those who couldn't survive in the lower levels and could only exchange their bodies for a little money to live.

Therefore, after walking for more than ten minutes and passing through this dark alley.

"Handsome, want to experience what it's like to be a man?"

"Honored guests, would you like to try a drink even better than honey water? Even Chem-Barons are obsessed with this!"

Heavily made-up prostitutes and unscrupulous vendors peddling unknown liquids were shamelessly soliciting passersby who walked through the alley.

Durin chose to ignore them directly; having lived in the lower levels for such a long time, he was already accustomed to it. Even if a few people were lying on a garbage heap, constantly frothing at the mouth, and some affected gasps came from his ears, it couldn't make Durin's expression waver in the slightest; he just subconsciously quickened his pace.

After all, in the lower districts of Zaun, especially the prostitutes in these dark alleys, nine out of ten were ill, the only difference being the severity of the illness. Durin didn't want to get sick because of lust. If they were prostitutes from Zaun's Entresol Level or Piltover, then Durin might consider it.

As for the drinks from those drug dealers, most of them were problematic as well; with good luck, nothing might happen, but with bad luck, it could range from diarrhea to addiction, just like being on drugs. Durin had once been greedy and talked into buying a cup by a vendor, only to suffer from diarrhea for several days, and since then, he had never trusted these unscrupulous vendors again.

Durin continued to walk forward; at the entrance of the street ahead, there hung a huge pink neon sign with the characters "Zhao He" written on it.

This was an area managed by a Chem-Baron named Takeda Saito, who was genuinely from Ionia, born into a samurai caste family. These caste families had once united to commit heinous crimes, and a few war criminals escaped judgment and wandered everywhere.

And Takeda Saito was a survivor of one such family.

Durin's gaze casually scanned both sides of the street; in a pleasant mood, he genuinely observed these pleasure houses. Almost every doorway had one or two Augment-equipped gang Enforcers on guard.

"Please, give me some money! Please!"

"Please! Have pity on me!"

Not far from the pleasure houses, there were also several young children missing arms or legs, begging in a squatting or kneeling posture, but passersby ignored these disabled children.

Their skin had patches of different sizes and varying depths of color, which was caused by long-term inhalation of smog.

Durin was somewhat silent, quietly took out a copper circle coin from his inner pocket, threw it into one of the children's bowls, and then quickened his pace and left.

This was Zaun; the harsh environment provided the soil for its existence, so the fruits it bore were naturally all evil.

After passing through this street and walking for about another half an hour, Durin arrived at number 753, pushed open the door, naturally took off his mask, and breathed in the fresh air.
