Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Spirit of Hard Work

After dealing with the vagrant-like man, Durin picked up a few copper circle coins from the ground and took a shortcut back to his residence.

Specialization points could accelerate the improvement of his skill proficiency, so even though he leveled up, Durin didn't immediately invest the gained specialization point into a skill. He needed to carefully consider which direction he wanted to develop in next.

He must fully develop his 'Grantaire' miserly spirit! Every specialization point must be used effectively!

However, before going home, Durin still stopped by the general store across the corner to check the task board for any jobs he could take the next morning.

Dock Porter, requires quick hands and feet, honest and reliable. Daily pay, 8 copper circle coins per day. Urgent need for Sewer Cleaner, requires quick hands and feet, diligent and hardworking, willing to endure hardship. Daily pay, 7 copper circle coins per day.

...

First Aquatic Product Market near the Inner Sea Port urgently needs temporary Butcher. Daily pay, only requires 4 hours of work in the morning, must arrive at 8 AM, 4 copper circle coins for 4 hours.

...

Debt Collection, debtor resides at 23 Sixth Street, North District, Entresol Level. Needs to recover a bond worth 1 gold cogwheel. Reward is 20% commission of the bond. Requires reporting to the task issuing office first—12 Third Avenue, East District, Entresol Level.

"This debt collection task is still hanging there," Durin muttered, frowning after quickly scanning all the tasks on the board.

Durin was very interested in the debt collection job. A debt of one gold cogwheel, with a 20% commission, amounted to 4.8 silver lun coins!

Coupled with the additional 2 gold cogwheels, the total amount of money would be enough to change Durin's current living situation. He could completely start a new life, move to a new residence, and initiate new plans.

Durin felt that the sixth temporary job was more suitable for him. He had worked as a butcher before, so he should be quite adept at it.

Although physical labor was hard and paid little, Durin wasn't afraid of hardship; he was more afraid of poverty!

Because in Zaun, once you ran out of money, you would be unable to move an inch. You might die on the streets in less than a month, your body left for the rats to gnaw on.

Durin still remembered the tragic death of that prostitute; he would never forget it!

Of course, Durin was naturally unwilling to do those jobs that were hard, tiring, and paid little.

After noting the location of the aquatic product market's temporary worker recruitment, Durin left the task board and returned to his residence.

As he was about to open the door and enter, he glanced again at his neighbor Amy's room and noticed light still leaking from the cracks in the door, indicating someone was inside.

It seemed that since the tavern was sealed, his neighbor Amy had not found a new job.

But Durin did nothing. He simply went to the small bathroom next to the public toilet for a quick wash, then lay on the bed and fell asleep with a comfortable expression.

The next day, Durin woke up early, preparing to head to the aquatic product market near the Inner Sea Port in the lower levels of Zaun.

Every day, seafood caught from the Inner Sea or the Guardian's Sea was sent to the aquatic product market for slaughter. Of course, only relatively good aquatic products, like Rednose Fish and Devilfish, were slaughtered...

After slaughter, some of these fish would remain in the market for sale, but most were quickly transported to nearby taverns for sale.

As for unwanted catches like Dragonhead Fish, which no one ate, they were sent to factories along with leftover scraps to be processed into canned products.

"Crunch!"

Dressed in work clothes, boots, and gloves, Durin swiftly cut a large-eyed Devilfish.

First, he chopped off the Devilfish's fins, then quickly sliced into the Devilfish's 'neck' with a knife, severing its head with a snap.

Then, using a specialized pointed knife for aquatic products, he precisely cut into the Devilfish's back and belly, effortlessly segmenting the Devilfish into several different-priced parts.

The upper, middle, and lower back, the large fatty meat, the medium fatty part, and the posterior belly—these large cut portions, once sent to taverns, would be further divided and sold at different prices.

Typically, a qualified Devilfish weighing about 4 catties would sell for 6 to 9 silver lun coins, earning it the nickname'soft gold of the sea.'
