Chapter 3 - Fragments of a Lost World

At that time I were blissfully unaware of the trials awaiting for me .The inward calm was quickly replaced by a survivalist's grit as one misfortune followed another.

When I was 15 , someone who was like a sister to me, holding a precious place in my life, left us only at 13 . After some days I heard that the cause of her death was complications from a brain malignancy . From further investigations they knew that her mother had been feeding her some harmful medicines . She was a bright spark of kindness, taken while her smile was still young and her heart was still full of dreams. Her incident hounted me for months. I was walking blindly into a series of misfortunes that were already lurking in the shadows .

After one year my maternal uncle died due to organ failure and my grandparents were consumed by despair . But my mother's situation was horrible because she hold him dearly . We couldn't bear to see her like that and it was devastating to watch her screaming and behaving like a mad person. After some months she accepted everything and tried to return her usual self again. We did our best to keep her happy and always tried to keep her company.

One year later when I was 17 and it was close to my birthday we planned to arrange a small gathering with my close friends and our relatives .I was really happy and didn't expect that these days will be my last blessed moments of my teenage life . One day my mother felt unwell and overnight her condition had worsened . The next day we admitted her to a hospital . That night felt heavy and way too long and at dawn we received a news form the hospital that she regained her consciousness . After some days she came back home and I couldn't express how much happy I was . That night, we celebrated to our heart's content, laughing as if we knew the music would never end, unaware that it was the last time we would feel so light.

It's terrifying to look back and realize how happy I was, totally oblivious to the fact that everything was about to change. The danger didn't give me a warning; it just arrived while I was looking the other way. An invisible countdown had started, and we thought the storm had passed, but we were only standing in the eye of it , the strongest winds were still to come.
