I was not expecting that. At first, when he said he wanted to read, I thought maybe it was just something simple, something light, or even something he picked randomly just to pass time. But the moment he opened the book and started, I realized very quickly that it was not what I had in mind.
It was a baby book. I mean the one wiith soft words and simple lines that sounded like they were meant to soothe a child, not… whatever this situation was.
I blinked slowly, still holding the strawberry he had given me earlier, and looked at him like I was trying to understand if he was being serious, and he was.
"And the little star looked down at the tiny cloud," he read, his voice was low, controlled, and still carrying that cold tone he never seemed to drop. "And it promised to shine brighter so the cloud would never feel alone."
