Hunting The Hunters.
It was now night time in the Calm Plains. The gentle night wind could make anyone forget all their worries. Except Ray.
The night wasn't cold. Instead, it was the perfect temperature for a good night's sleep.
Lina slept on a mattress Ray made for her while also covered in a cozy blanket. She slept peacefully, her chest rising and falling in slow rhythms.
Beside her were the Calm Rabbits, sleeping peacefully, unaware of their fate.
A little farther away, the Annihilation Anomalies were moving towards them. They only wanted to kill the rabbit because that's what they were created for.
But they couldn't do that.
"Well, you're not so cute, are you?" Ray said from behind them.
As the Anomalies turned around, they saw Ray standing there with a katana in his right hand.
"Bunnies should be cute, right?" Ray said as he smiled.
The Anomalies are supposed to only kill the ones they are made to kill. But if anyone interferes, they can kill them without hesitation. That is actually the reason Ray came to kill them as Lina has taken a liking to the other bunnies and he doesn't want her to get hurt while the Anomalies kill the Calm Rabbits.
One of the Anomalies jumped at Ray, hoping to bite out his flesh with it's sharp teeth.
But in an instant, it was cut in half and disappeared into nothingness.
The others all attacked Ray at once, trying to overwhelm him through numbers.
But Ray just swung his sword and cut down half of them.
The other half tried to run away. But the direction they chose was towards Lina. Big mistake.
"Never knew monsters made of darkness could feel fear. It's an interesting world, ain't it?" Ray said as he cut down the rest in the blink of an eye.
One survived through luck. Maybe bad luck. Ray thrusted the sword into it's stomach, avoiding killing it in one hit, and left it there with the sword.
Ray walked towards the rabbits sleeping next to Lina.
He looked at Lina, then at the rabbits, then back at Lina.
"Sorry, kiddo. But papa's gotta do what he gotta do." Ray said while smiling as he patted her head.
He picked up the rabbits one by one without waking them up and took them away from Lina. After walking about a hundred meters, he sat down.
He made a knife using mana and cut the heads off the rabbits so fast the rabbits didn't even get to realize or wake up.
He skinned them all, cut them into small pieces and was putting them in a bag he made while he saw the Anomaly still struggling, still not dead.
"Quite resilient, are you?" Ray smiled and put the bag away with the meat in it.
He walked up to the Anomaly and looked down at it with devilish eyes.
"I really wouldn't want Lina seeing something like you." he said as he held the katana. "Bye-Bye~"
He twisted the katana really fast, killing the Anomaly. It disappeared into nothingness like the others.
He then turned the katana back into mana and absorbed it into his body.
He looked up into the sky and closed his eyes, feeling the gentle wind calming his body.
As he looked at Lina sleeping in the distance, he couldn't help but feel at ease.
"It's not every day I see her sleep like that. If not for this shitty place, I would be constantly at alert." he said, hinting that despite everything, he was just a tiny bit grateful to this place.
He walked towards Lina while smiling. After reaching her side, he looked at her sleeping face and his worries disappeared.
He laid down next to her on the mattress ant covered himself with the blanket. Lina, in her sleep, cuddled into his chest and hugged him tightly.
Ray smiled and pulled her closer. "You cute little devil. Both you and her are making me suffer." he said as he hugged her gently. "But a promise is a promise."
Ray drifted off to sleep. In this hell of a world, a peaceful sleep is the rarest thing ever. So Ray sleeping so peacefully is kind of sad. But at least he's sleeping, even while still suffering from starvation.
Will Ray find enough food to be at ease and eat some himself?
Or will he still not eat for Lina's sake?
Or worse, will he even find enough food?
Will he even be able to get out of this place alive?
