Chapter 105 - Chapter 105: The Thing Inside the Core

CRAAAAAAAAAAAAASH.

The Core exploded.

Unstable crimson light tore through the underground cathedral like a collapsing star, shockwaves ripping apart pillars, synchronization chambers, and entire sections of Sector Seven as the cocoon at the center of the chamber finally shattered open completely.

Ayan was thrown backward violently across the ruined floor.

The world disappeared beneath crimson light.

Sound vanished.

For one terrifying second—

Everything became pure energy.

Then the shockwave passed.

The underground cathedral fell silent.

Dust and glowing crimson particles drifted slowly through the air while broken cables sparked wildly across the destroyed chamber. Entire sections of the ceiling had collapsed now, exposing endless darkness above while synchronization fluid flooded across the shattered ground like blood.

Ayan forced himself upright slowly, breathing hard.

Pain spread through his entire body.

But worse than the pain—

Was the pressure.

Something had changed.

Something inside the Core had awakened fully.

The Harvester scout stood motionless several meters away, black armor-like flesh damaged and partially torn apart from the explosion. Its white eyes remained fixed directly toward the center of the destroyed cathedral.

Not calm anymore.

Alert.

Even the Harvester reacted.

That alone sent cold fear through Ayan's chest.

Aelira appeared beside him instantly.

"…Are you hurt?"

Her voice sounded tense.

Ayan shook his head slowly before looking toward the center of the chamber.

Then froze.

The Core was gone.

Or rather—

The cocoon surrounding it had disappeared.

What remained beneath the shattered crimson shell looked horrifyingly human.

A massive figure floated silently above the broken cathedral floor, suspended in the middle of countless disconnected cables still hanging from the ruined structure around it.

A man.

Or something that once had been one.

His body looked partially formed from living crimson light and black metallic structures fused directly into flesh. Thin glowing lines spread beneath pale skin while fragments of broken synchronization cables still connected into his back and arms.

And his eyes—

Were closed.

The synchronized individuals throughout the cathedral immediately lowered themselves completely toward the figure.

Reverence.

Fear.

Worship.

Primary Source.

No longer hidden inside the cocoon.

Ayan's chest tightened slowly.

Because suddenly—

The network no longer felt like a system.

It felt like a person.

The Harvester scout stepped backward slightly.

"…Core consciousness manifested."

For the first time—

The creature sounded cautious.

The floating figure slowly opened his eyes.

Crimson light illuminated the ruined cathedral instantly.

Ayan's heartbeat nearly stopped.

Because unlike the synchronized individuals—

Unlike the corrupted creatures—

Unlike the network itself—

Those eyes looked completely human.

Tired.

Ancient.

And unbearably sad.

The floating man looked around the destroyed cathedral silently for several long moments.

Then finally—

His gaze landed on Ayan.

"…So."

His voice echoed softly through the chamber.

Real.

Human.

"…You reached this place too."

Ayan froze completely.

Too.

Not first.

Again.

Aelira stepped slightly forward.

"…Cael."

The name echoed quietly through the ruined cathedral.

The floating man looked toward her slowly.

And for the first time—

Ayan saw emotion spread across the Primary Source's face.

Pain.

"…Aelira."

Silence followed.

Heavy silence.

The Harvester scout interrupted calmly.

"…Primary Source instability confirmed."

Cael's crimson eyes shifted toward the creature immediately.

And the atmosphere changed.

The underground cathedral trembled violently beneath invisible pressure while countless crimson lines illuminated across the broken chamber all at once.

"…You entered this world too early."

The Harvester scout remained motionless.

"…Convergence accelerates."

Cael slowly lowered himself toward the shattered floor.

His movements looked strangely human despite the impossible energy surrounding him.

"…No."

His voice sharpened slightly.

"…You accelerated it."

The Harvester's white eyes pulsed softly.

"…Correction."

Cael laughed quietly.

Not happily.

Exhaustedly.

"…That word again."

Ayan stared silently.

Because suddenly—

Everything felt different.

Primary Source no longer sounded like the network.

He sounded like someone trapped inside it.

The synchronized woman stepped forward carefully.

"…Primary Source…"

Cael raised one hand slightly.

She immediately fell silent.

Then slowly—

He looked back toward Ayan.

"…You remind me of him."

Ayan already knew who he meant.

"…Ren."

Aelira lowered her gaze slightly.

Cael's expression softened painfully.

"…He asked the same questions."

The ruined cathedral shook again.

But now—

The tremors felt distant.

Less important.

Because the truth standing before Ayan mattered more than the collapsing structure around them.

Ayan looked directly at Cael.

"…Who are you really?"

Silence.

Then Cael answered quietly.

"…The first anomaly."

The words hit harder than expected.

Ayan's eyes widened slightly.

"…What?"

The Harvester scout immediately reacted.

"…Impossible."

Cael's crimson gaze shifted briefly toward it.

"…You thought synchronization created me."

A faint bitter smile appeared across his face.

"…No."

His eyes returned toward Ayan.

"…I arrived here long before Sector Seven existed."

The underground cathedral became completely silent.

Ayan's thoughts raced violently.

The first anomaly.

Before Ren.

Before the network.

Before everything.

Cael slowly looked around the destroyed chamber surrounding them.

"…Humanity was already losing when I arrived."

Fragments of memory seemed to pass behind his eyes.

"…Worlds were disappearing."

"…Dimensional boundaries collapsing."

"…The Harvesters consuming everything."

The Harvester scout remained motionless.

Cael's expression darkened slightly.

"…And humanity chose fear."

His crimson eyes lowered briefly.

"…So I created the network."

Ayan's chest tightened.

Because suddenly—

The truth became horrifyingly clear.

Primary Source wasn't created by the network.

He created it.

The synchronized individuals throughout the cathedral lowered themselves further instantly.

Worship.

Not programming.

Cael continued quietly.

"…At first, it was supposed to help humanity survive."

His voice weakened slightly.

"…Adaptation without loss of identity."

Aelira closed her eyes briefly.

Because both of them already knew what came next.

Cael looked toward the broken synchronization chambers surrounding the cathedral.

Toward the unstable subjects still twitching across the ruined floor.

Toward the crimson cables spread like veins beneath the world.

"…But survival changed us."

Silence followed.

Then quietly—

"…The network stopped understanding humanity."

The Harvester scout suddenly stepped forward.

"…Correction."

Its white eyes glowed brighter.

"…Humanity itself became obsolete."

Cael's expression hardened instantly.

For the first time—

Real anger appeared in his eyes.

"…No."

The entire underground cathedral shook violently.

Crimson energy erupted throughout the chamber.

"…Humanity matters precisely because it is imperfect."

The Harvester scout remained still.

"…Imperfection causes extinction."

Cael answered immediately.

"…Imperfection creates meaning."

The two entities stared at each other silently across the collapsing cathedral.

And suddenly—

Ayan understood.

This wasn't merely a war for survival.

It was a war over what humanity should become.

The network wanted controlled evolution.

The Harvesters wanted total convergence.

And somewhere between them—

Humanity itself was being erased.

Cael slowly looked toward Ayan again.

"…That's why you were brought here."

Ayan's heartbeat slowed.

"…Me."

Cael nodded once.

"…Bridge anomalies exist because humanity needed a third path."

Silence crushed the chamber.

A third path.

Not the network.

Not the Harvesters.

Something else.

The crystal at Ayan's side pulsed violently again.

This time—

Cael smiled faintly.

"…Yes."

His crimson eyes locked onto Ayan's directly.

"…You finally reached the point where the choice becomes yours."
