The headquarters of Lawson Holdings had long fallen silent by the time the clock struck ten. One by one, the lights in the surrounding offices disappeared until only the executive floor remained illuminated. Beyond the glass walls, the city glittered beneath the night sky, its endless stream of headlights looking like rivers of stars. Inside Peter's office, however, the atmosphere was far less peaceful. Files covered the conference table, laptops hummed softly, and several coffee cups testified to the long hours both Peter and Caro had spent preparing for the international investors' presentation.
Neither of them had noticed how late it had become.
Peter leaned back in his chair and rubbed the bridge of his nose. He had been reviewing financial projections for nearly three hours without taking a real break. Every figure, every contract clause, and every security recommendation demanded his full attention. Since the attempted sabotage, he had refused to leave anything to chance.
