Chapter 4 - The Devil's Offer 2

I was struck with shock by Klaus's words, I laughed for a second, hoping it was nothing short of a joke and a calculated speech to mock my pitiful situation.

"Destroy a man who doesn't love me?" i asked and laughed again, the word sounding so funny in my ears the more i thought about it.

"And what's funny to you?, is it your damaged marriage? or your broken soul?" he mocked.

"From the start, i knew something was off about you" I revealed but he kept staring, his silence driving me crazy by the second, he shifted his gaze to my bleeding finger and i followed it immediately only to realize i had stained my night gown with blood, i quickly placed my finger in my mouth, trying to stop the bleeding.

He went to the drawer by the mirror and took out some wipes and damped them, he leaned closer and stretched them, not wanting to be close to a woman who sounded crazy, i grabbed them swiftly and wrapped them around my fingers. My nightgown was ruined with blood stains, but he simply walked past me, opening the wardrobe by the side of bedframe and tossing me a new night robe. I instinctively covered my chest immediately as i took off the night wear, but before i could take another glance, he was gone.

I quickly changed into the black nightgown and thrashed the blood ridden one like it carried the weight of my sorrows, i stepped out of the room and the hallway was quiet, i could see doors to other room but the quietness felt like we were the only occupants, i could hear sounds downstairs and i followed the faint voices, only to see Klaus by the mini bar, drinking and watching the news. I slowly walked to him, but the faces on the TV screen stole my gaze in an instant.

"When last did you her?" the reporter asked, and to my greatest surprise, Ethan took the mic, crying so hard like he was in serious pain.

"The last time i saw her was at the wedding but she's nowhere to be found, i only went to change for the after party only to find her wedding dress by the ocean" Ethan confessed, crying profusely, my heart felt heavy once more and on seeing my mother, Klaus changed the channel.

"Put that back on!" I screamed.

He ignored, switching the channel to hockey, i grabbed the remote in rage, but he was way faster as he yanked it off my grip.

"There's nothing for you to see. If what you say is true, then your husband is nothing but a cheater and a pathetic liar," he said calmly

"You're wrong, they are looking for me and my mother is worried!, this was a very terrible mistake!" i said as i turned around to leave.

"And where are you going to?" he asked, still seated comfortably in his bar chair.

"I'm going home to see my husband and mother!, i have nothing to do with you!" I yelled.

"And what of my proposal?" he asked.

"To hell with you and your proposal!" i spat out and grabbed the car keys on the table and ran for the door.

I got inside his car and ignited the engine, but he didn't chase me , nor did he try to stop me. He simply walked out but paused in his tracks, staring at me from the door. I drifted the car at once and zoomed out. The securities did nothing to stop me as i drove past them. They opened the gates. I felt happy knowing that everyone was searching for me, my heart pumped with joy with my blood growing hot by the second, my soul longed for Ethan and i stepped on the accelerator with happiness on my face as i got to the highway.

"I'm coming home, baby. I'm coming to you, my love!" i screamed out of joy, not letting any negative thoughts cloud my judgment.

I felt a phone underneath me, i took it out and a smile grew on my face on realizing it was without a passcode, being in possession of Klaus's car and phone felt so unreal and no one would believe me if i told them. I quickly dialed my husband's number, craving to hear his voice so badly.

He answered, and my heart skipped a beat on hearing his voice.

"Babe, it's me, it's Arabella" i said with tears with tears and a smile etched on my lips but he was silent, i took a quick glance at the screen with one hand on the steering, swerving and maintaining balance on the highway, I definitely didn't call the wrong number.

"Babe!" I called again

"How the little piglet comes running back"

"Ethan, i miss you, I'm so sorry" i confessed.

"There's nothing to be sorry for. You are worthless to me, and i always knew you would come running back after that foolish stunt you pulled" he mocked.

His laughter broke my heart for the second time as i tasted my salty tears and closed my eyes in deep regret.

"So everything we shared has been a lie?" I asked with a heavy heart.

"I never loved you Arabella, my love has always been for Stephanie, you were nothing more than a second choice. Come home and beg for my forgiveness you fool!" he cursed and hung up before i could speak again, i felt a sharp pain in my heart, and my vision blurred for some seconds as i stepped hard on the brakes.

His words shattered me completely, and i sobbed silently, watching other drivers curse me for stopping at the center of the road. I turned around in shame as i made my way to the estate, accepting the reality that i was a fool for love. On reaching Klaus's door, i hesitated for some minutes, rethinking everything that happened in just one night, i rang the door bell and turned around to leave at once, fearing this was nothing more than a trap but he opened the door swiftly.

His presence trapped me to the earth, his eyes searching my soul for words my mouth couldn't utter.

"I knew you would come back" he said coldly

"I accept your proposal, Klaus Marshall!" I confessed, my eyes fixed on his as i made my choice.
