Chapter 19 - THE KEEPER'S SECRET PLAN REVEALED

Ajeji village was pulling itself together, but something didn't feel right. The air carried a strange tension, heavy and unsettled. Ade sensed it, that constant tug from the shadow realm a low hum in the back of his mind, like the Keeper of Shadows was nearby, lurking, scheming.

Baba Ikuomola wasn't letting Ade rest. Every day, training got harder. They mixed light and shadow in ways that felt brand new, always staying one step ahead of the Night People's tricks and surprises. But Ade's gut told him they hadn't seen the worst yet. The Keeper hid something bigger.

Later that night, Ade sat by the River of Shadows, trying to clear his head, when a chill swept over him. A whisper, sly and icy, slid into his thoughts: "You think you have won, Adegboyega…"

He snapped his eyes open. Shadows all around started to shiver, twisting in ways they shouldn't. The Keeper's voice came from everywhere or nowhere, really.

Ade tried to sound steady, even though his heart pounded. "I know what you're planning. You'll come back stronger, but you won't win."

A soft, eerie laugh echoed. "You misunderstand. I do not plan to return. Not alone."

Ade felt his whole body tighten. "What are you talking about?"

The voice floated around him: "The first wave was only a test. A distraction. While you protected your little village, we moved elsewhere…"

Suddenly, images flooded Ade's mind, strange forests, steep mountains, unfamiliar rivers. Whole villages cloaked in unnatural darkness, people twisted into living shadows.

He saw it now. "You've been gathering power," Ade said, voice shaking with realization. "You're building up for something much bigger."

"Yes," the Keeper hissed. "A ritual. This won't just open the gate, it will merge our world with yours. The human realm will belong to us, and nothing can stop it… except you."

Ade's stomach dropped. "What about those other leaders you talked about?"

"They're watching and waiting for their chance," the Keeper said. "But they need the portal wide open for the strongest to enter and I'll make sure that happens soon."

Ade clenched his fists, feeling that strange mix of light and shadow coursing through him. Calm. Focused. Nothing could stop him now.

"I'm ready," he said.

Wind rattled the trees, and somewhere in the rustling leaves, he caught the Keeper's voice far off, but still sharp enough to cut.

"The bridge has awakened… now the reckoning begins."

A faint glow flickered in Ade's eyes. He understood, this wasn't just Ajeji Village on the line. The whole human world was about to hang in the balance.

This time, he wouldn't hold anything back. He was going straight at it.
