Chapter 16 - The Breath of Life

The sun was just beginning to bleed over the horizon, painting the sky of Jalpura in shades of bruised purple and gold. Han emerged from the mouth of the Ghost's Maw, his clothes torn and his face smeared with soot and silver dust. He looked like a man who had walked through hell and come back with the fire of the Gods.

The golden aura from the ancient tablet had faded, but a strange, faint shimmer still clung to Han's skin. Every step he took felt light, as if the earth itself was pushing him forward, welcoming its master back.

In his trembling hands, he held a pouch made of damp moss. Inside lay the Essence Fungi—three small, translucent mushrooms that pulsed with a soft, violet light. They were cool to the touch, but Han could feel the immense life-force vibrating within them.

[System Timer: 22 Minutes Remaining.]

"Just a little more," Han wheezed, his lungs burning. He didn't head for his home; he ran straight to the hidden corner of his field where the Silver Sprout was kept.

As he reached the small, fenced-off patch, his heart sank. The Silver Sprout, once a vibrant metallic blue, was now a sickly, shriveled grey. Its leaves were drooping toward the dry soil, and the air around it felt heavy with the scent of decay. It was dying.

"Host, the synchronization is at 2%," the System warned. "The connection between the farm and the Earth-God's legacy is failing. If the Sprout dies, the tablet will lock forever."

Han didn't waste a second. He knelt in the dirt, ignoring the sharp stones cutting into his knees. He carefully took one of the Essence Fungi and crushed it between two flat stones. A thick, violet nectar began to ooze out, smelling like fresh rain and ancient sandalwood.

Gently, almost prayerfully, Han dripped the nectar onto the roots of the Silver Sprout.

For a heartbeat, nothing happened. The silence in the morning air was suffocating. Then, the ground began to tremble.

Suddenly, a low, melodic hum started to rise from the soil. The violet nectar was absorbed instantly, and a flash of blinding white light shot out from the roots. Han jumped back as a wave of pure energy washed over him.

The Silver Sprout didn't just grow; it erupted.

The shriveled grey leaves turned into shimmering, razor-sharp silver blades. The stem thickened, turning into a beautiful, translucent stalk that looked like it was forged from starlight. From the center of the plant, a tiny, crystalline bud began to form, glowing with a soft, rhythmic pulse.

[System Notification: Evolution Successful!]

[The Silver Sprout has evolved into: 'The Lunar Sentinel' (Grade: Mortal-Spirit).]

[Farm Vitality increased by 500%!]

But the miracle didn't stop there. The energy from the Sentinel began to spread through the soil like a ripple in a pond. Han watched in awe as the surrounding potato plants—previously ordinary and weary—suddenly straightened. Their leaves became a deep, healthy emerald green, and small, golden veins began to appear on their surfaces.

Suddenly, a shadow fell over Han. He turned to see an old villager, Uncle Rahim, standing a few yards away, his jaw dropped in disbelief.

"Han... what in the name of the ancestors is this?" the old man whispered, rubbing his eyes. "The air... it feels like I'm breathing pure mountain water. And your crops... they are glowing!"

Han stood up, wiping the dirt from his face. He could feel the eyes of the village beginning to turn toward his small plot of land. He knew he couldn't hide this forever. The 'Eternal Harvester' was no longer a secret.

"It's just a new kind of fertilizer, Uncle," Han said, though his glowing silver eyes told a different story.

Deep within his mind, the System chimed one last time for the morning.

[New Quest Unlocked: The Jealous Eye. Protect your harvest from the greed of men.]

Han looked at his glowing field and then at the village. He had saved the Sprout, but he had started a fire that would bring both friends and enemies to his doorstep. The real work was just beginning.
