The moon was a thin, pale crescent hanging over the village of Jalpura, casting long, distorted shadows that seemed to crawl across the earth. While the rest of the villagers were locking their doors and huddling near their hearths, Han was stepping into the darkness. He felt the heavy weight of the ancient bronze tablet against his chest, wrapped tightly in sackcloth, and his hand gripped the rusted handle of his father's old machete.
"Six hours," Han whispered to himself, his breath visible in the chilly night air. "Six hours before the Silver Sprout dies."
As he approached the edge of the 'Ghost's Maw,' the atmosphere changed instantly. The familiar chirping of night crickets stopped abruptly, replaced by a heavy, unnatural silence. The forest didn't look like a collection of trees; it looked like a wall of twisted obsidian. A thick, grey mist clung to the ground, swirling around Han's ankles like ghostly fingers trying to pull him down.
The moment he stepped past the first boundary oak, the path behind him seemed to vanish into the fog.

"Great, now you tell me," Han muttered, his heart drumming a frantic rhythm.
Suddenly, a cold wind shrieked through the branches, though not a single leaf moved. Han froze. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw it—a tall, flickering black shadow standing between two gnarled trunks. It had no face, only two pinpricks of dim, crimson light where eyes should be. It didn't move; it just watched.
Han's blood ran cold. He remembered the village elders' warnings about the 'Shadow Sentinels' of the Maw. He tightened his grip on the machete and kept moving, his eyes fixed forward. He couldn't afford to stop.

As he pushed deeper, the trees began to change. Their bark was no longer wood but felt like cold, damp skin. Suddenly, a low, guttural growl echoed from the canopy above. Han looked up just in time to see a dark shape lunging at him. He dove to the side, rolling over the sharp roots as a creature—half-wolf, half-shadow—slammed into the spot where he had been standing.
The beast didn't growl again. It simply dissolved into black smoke and reformed a few feet away, its crimson eyes locked onto the glowing sackcloth where the tablet was hidden. It wasn't after Han; it wanted the artifact.
"You want this?" Han growled, standing his ground. He felt a strange warmth spreading from the tablet into his arm. "You'll have to go through the Eternal Harvester first!"
Suddenly, the runes on the tablet under his arm pulsed with a violent silver light. The shadow-beast recoiled, let out a silent scream, and vanished into the mist. But Han knew this was just the beginning. The forest felt alive now, the ground beneath his feet shifting as if the very earth was breathing.
He pushed through a curtain of hanging vines and stopped dead. In the center of a small clearing sat a pool of glowing, violet water. Around it, small, crystalline mushrooms emitted a soft hum.

But as Han stepped toward the pool, the mist thickened into the shape of a massive, hooded figure blocking his path. It held a scythe made of bone, and its voice sounded like grinding stones.
"Who dares... disturb the silence of the Maw?"
Han didn't back down. He looked at the system timer—4 hours left. He raised his machete, the silver light of the tablet reflecting in his determined eyes. The real battle for his farm was about to begin.
