Although it was well past noon, Shana was still in bed, buried beneath the sheets.
She had been awake for hours. Every time she considered getting up, she remembered that leaving the room meant facing someone from the household. There were the maids she had approached the previous evening, asking for things she could barely bring herself to name. There was Monika, who had opened the office door at precisely the wrong moment.
And there was Ulrich.
Shana pulled the sheet closer around herself.
She had misunderstood everything. He had summoned her to discuss the sisters and the Coven, and she had spent half the evening preparing for something he never intended. Then she had gone to his office in that gown, climbed onto him, and continued even after he tried to stop her.
Remembering it made her want to hide more deeply beneath the bedding.
