Chapter 17 - Mission Spree

Yuji quickly closed in on the Cursed Spirit and kicked it. The Cursed Spirit tried to block it with its arm as it had just done, but it heard a sound of bone cracking.

The arm it used to block Yuji's kick was twisted, a stark contrast to how easily it had blocked before. With the Cursed Spirit's deformed brain, it couldn't understand what had happened.

The sound of something breaking through the air behind it brought it back from its daze, and it dodged awkwardly to the side. However, the speed of the nail had increased significantly, and the nail, imbued with Cursed Energy, pierced its shoulder blade and embedded itself deeply.

Straw Doll Technique: Hairpin!

Bang!

Before it could finish regenerating its arm with Cursed Energy, Yuji, who was standing in front of it, had already assumed a stance with a vacant gaze, a drop of saliva slowly dripping from the corner of his mouth, and then he threw a punch.

Black Flash!

Yuji's fist, carrying black light, hit the Cursed Spirit's head. Without a doubt, the punch smashed the Cursed Spirit's head.

Shin patted Megumi on the shoulder and said, "See? They can do it, right? Now, the two of them can even trade blows with an average Special Grade."

The one who had improved the most in this battle was Yuji. Not only did his Cursed Energy level increase by a tier, but because he landed a Black Flash, he entered a Flow state, where he could control his Cursed Energy as easily as his limbs, and the previous issue of split damage would never happen again.

Although Nobara's Cursed Energy and control had also improved significantly, it was a pity she didn't land a Black Flash. Fortunately, she was originally stronger than Yuji, so she was just being caught up to by him.

Megumi stared blankly at the two people in the distance who were excitedly clapping and celebrating after exorcising the Cursed Spirit. He clenched his fists and secretly made up his mind to work harder and not be left behind by them.

In fact, the three students at Jujutsu High were all geniuses. In the original plot, they were all Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerers while still in their first year, equivalent to the backbone of the Jujutsu World. They just hadn't fully developed yet.

Once they dealt with all the Grade 1 and Special Grade Cursed Spirits on the list sent by Satoru, their strength would easily reach Grade 1.

Shin walked up and gave each of them a steak to help them recover their energy, asking, "How do you feel, Kugisaki, Itadori? Did you realize that Grade 1 Cursed Spirits are just so-so?"

Yuji nodded vigorously and replied proudly, "Indeed, that final Black Flash of mine killed it instantly. It really isn't that strong."

Nobara recalled the battle just now, nodded, and summarized, "Cursed Spirits have low intelligence. Although Grade 1 Cursed Spirits have extremely high Cursed Energy output, they just use their Cursed Techniques and Cursed Energy blasts mindlessly. Dodging them wasn't very difficult."

"Honestly, even if Itadori and I hadn't suddenly received a Cursed Energy boost, the final result would still have been a victory, just taking a bit longer and sustaining some injuries."

This was indeed true, and it was also the main reason why Jujutsu Sorcerers below Special Grade were stronger than Cursed Spirits of the same level.

After the two finished their steaks and recovered, the four of them returned to Jujutsu High to rest.

...

By the time Satoru returned from his business trip, about a week had passed.

When he saw Shin and his group training with the second-years on the Jujutsu High playground, he couldn't help but pull down half of his blindfold and raise his eyebrows in surprise.

"This is truly... remarkable progress. Then, the upcoming Goodwill Event will definitely be won by our Tokyo School."

The first and second-year students gathered around.

Maki asked, "Has the time been set? I know it's coming up, but I'm not sure about the specifics."

"Salmon."

Panda scratched his head and counted the number of people.

"Gojo-sensei, who is participating this year? It seems like only the first and second years can participate on our side."

Nobara and Yuji, who didn't know the situation, pulled Shin aside to ask.

Shin explained, "The Kyoto Sister School Goodwill Event is a Jujutsu competition where the Tokyo Jujutsu High and Kyoto Jujutsu High each send a few people. It's divided into individual matches and team matches."

"Generally, people are chosen from the second and third years because they have a better grasp of their Cursed Techniques and it's more entertaining. However, our Tokyo School's third-years dropped out due to some... uh... special reasons."

"And our second-year senior Okkotsu Yuta is currently abroad, so we're very short on people. That's why the first-years have to step up first."

Satoru clapped his hands to attract everyone's attention.

"The third-years Hakari Kinji and Hoshi Kirara had some conflict with the people from Kyoto Jujutsu High last year. They beat them up and were suspended. There's nothing that can't be said, I personally feel they did nothing wrong."

"This time, all of our first and second-year students will participate in the Goodwill Event, but Domain Expansion is prohibited. I'm talking about you, Shin. This is the best solution I managed to get after arguing with that group for a long time."

Shin nodded in agreement.

Now, after exorcising a bunch of Grade 1 and even Special Grade Cursed Spirits with Megumi and the others, he had improved quite a bit.

His Domain range had increased to a sphere with a radius of 218 meters, and enchanted items could be used outside the Domain, though he couldn't switch enchantments on the same item at will.

'Isn't the radius of an open Domain like Malevolent Shrine only 200 meters? It doesn't seem very "open".'

A closed Domain is larger than an open Domain. It's really hard to tell which one is actually open. It's just that the number of blocks required to build the Domain is insane. Shin needs to save up for two or three days to gather enough.
