Chapter 23 - CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR

Aaron watched as Elena sipped the juice he had ordered for her. Elena, feeling his gaze, looked up at him. "Is there something on my face?" She asked, cautiously. "No, I'm just admiring you. I haven't had the chance to look at you for a while. I remember the times we sat here to eat, when you worked here. We had great fun, hiding from my mom. Hahaha" Aaron answered, reminiscing about their past. Elena found herself smiling at their memories. Her smile, however, was wiped off when she remembered how it all ended. She breathed a deep sigh. "Why did you bring me here, Aaron? I wanted to stay with my daughter." Elena spoke. "I know that. I just wanted to calm you down and spend some time with you as well. Ellen is going to be just fine; she is in good hands. I hope that's okay?" Aaron said, with caution. Elena nodded. They spoke for some time, and she warmed up to him, letting her guard down just like old times. George came out to meet his friends chatting casually amidst chuckles. 'Elena has really forgiven Aaron… Thank you Lord', he thought with a smile as he approached them. "Oh hey. Is there a problem?", Aaron asked, alarming Elena when they saw George appear suddenly. "Oh no, I just came to tell you Ellen has woken up. Chris is with her at the moment, tending to her. "I will go and see her now." Elena said, standing. "Oo okay, I will be with you in a jiffy." Aaron responded, and she left in a hurry. "Is it me or was Elena talking to you freely and even laughing? Wow Aaron, wow. You have worked your magic on her again, amazing. Seriously man, how do you do it though?" George teased. "Shut up before you jinx everything for me." Aaron sneered. He left with George behind him. Everyone in the cafeteria was shocked to see Dr. Wilson with a woman a while ago. This didn't look like a doctor patient talk, because he did that in his office. In fact, the man rarely came to the cafeteria, let alone with a woman. The question on everyone's mind was who are the two ladies he's brought to the hospital? First a teenager, and now a woman. Who are they and what's their relationship with the man?

Back in the private ward.

Ellen and her mother were holding their ribs from too much laughter. Chris was at his best, cracking jokes for the mother and daughter. He always used this tactic on his patients, in order for them to forget their pain for a while. "You are quite a funny guy Christian." Elena said, with a laugh. "Oh no auntie. I'm a doctor, not a comedian. Please don't say I'm funny, say I have a good sense of humor." Chris corrected in a jovial manner. "Wow, you are not only a doctor or comedian, but a teacher as well. You are teaching me now." Elena retorted, laughing. Their heads turned to the door when they heard it open. Aaron and George stepped in to see the fading smile on their faces. "What's going on here?" Aaron asked with curiosity. "Nothing much uncle, I was just attending to my patient and her beautiful mother, whom I doubt is really her mother, and not sister. Maybe you had two daughters, instead of one, uncle. She is just too beautiful." Chris replied and winked at Elena who blushed. "I agree. Your uncle sure has a good eye, right?" George backed his son with a tease. Aaron and Elena smiled. "Okay now back to business. How are you doing Ellen? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?", Aaron asked, getting serious. "No, I'm fine now…just hungry." Ellen replied with a smile. "I will go get you something to eat then. What would you like to eat?" Chris asked, making himself the errand boy before they even had the chance to do so. Ellen thought for a while and settled on fried rice with chicken. She had to admit; she really missed Henry at the moment. "Okay then, aunt, would you care for some as well?" Chris asked and left when Aaron answered in the affirmative on behalf of Elena. "I'm going to accompany him. We'll be back soon." George said and left to give the family their space. The room was suddenly engulfed with silence. Just when the pressure couldn't get any more intense, Elena spoke; "Aaron I want Ellen to live with you if that's okay with you. I think it would be great for you to get to know our daughter. And you can take better care of her than I can. She needs her father." "That's not fair mom! How can you just hand me over like some object? I don't need just my mom or dad; I need my parents! I don't want to live with either one of you, I want to be with you both. All my life, I've never had a father, and you have never had any man with you, you told me he was dead, and now he is sitting right in front of me. You speak about, and listen to the love and forgiveness of God, but you don't want to let go of the past. He hurt you; I get it mom. But he has come back for you, for us. Can't you be the better person to not make him suffer anymore? I would rather stay in this bed than go with just one of you." Ellen retorted in anguish and sorrow. She had seen how her parents were looking at each other and how they smiled when they were being teased. Clearly, they still cared deeply for each other, just too hurt and proud to admit. Before they came in, Chris and his father had told her, "You are the only one who can bring your parents together. Their love for you is the only thing they have in common aside their love for each other. You just have to push harder, and you will have a complete family like you deserve, Ellen. Your mother is deeply hurt, but she won't see your father's sincerity if she doesn't give him a chance." This was said before George went to report she was awake. His theory was proven when he saw how they were relating comfortably like old times. Aaron turned to look at his first love and, "She is right Elena. I personally don't want to be in a custody relationship with you. God knows how deeply I regret everything, even if I was doing it for both of you. Honestly, I just relied on the comfort that George was going to take care of you two till I get back. I don't want to spend any more time away from you two again, and I would really appreciate it, if you both give me one more chance, like God gave me, when I finally found you two." Aaron said, with tears in his eyes. Elena looked at her daughter, who stared back with anticipation, then turned to her ex-husband, who looked too sincere to be true. She sighed, and to their surprise, but relief, "Okay. Just this once I'm choosing to trust you again, Aaron. Just this once I'm choosing to let go of my better judgement, and accept you once again. All for the sake of our daughter, and because I won't be able to face God if I don't forgive you, like he forgave me." She replied in the affirmative. Aaron was beside himself with joy, and Ellen felt she had done her Godly duty, by bringing back, what God brought together years ago. She figured it was meant to be, as her father was right about God giving him another chance to find his family. Elena shrieked in excitement when Aaron picked her up in a hug. Ellen watched her parents with tears of joy in her eyes. Her mother hasn't been this happy before. She realized pride and pain really keeps you from happiness. The lovers added their daughter to the hug and Aaron silently thanked God in his heart for this miracle.
