Chapter 21 - CHAPTER TWENTY TWO

Ellen got home with mixed feelings once again, but this time it was of Henry and not her father. Anyone who is well acquainted with Henry knew he had a hell of a temper, and this was the first time Ellen got front row seat to see it. The girls had to admit they did not expect this attitude behind his cool and handsome countenance…. "I love you too honey. Of course we are being good boys. Okay, byeeeee, love." Henry sneered as he got home to hear his father on the phone. He had gone on a long ride with Clara in his car, to clear his mind. He always went on a long drive when something was bothering him and sometimes smashed things just to vent. Today he could only drive around as he could not do anything irrational with Clara in the front seat. He went home after dropping her off and Clara failing to calm her friend down. As Henry heard the words being spoken by his father, he looked at him coldly and asked, "How can you say that to her when you know what you are doing behind her back. Don't you have any conscience?" after Terry hanged up the call. Henry didn't need anyone to tell him it was his mom on the phone just now. Terry looked at his son who had a cold aura and asked, "Does your conscience prick you when you play those girls for fools?" with a calm expression. His question threw Henry off bounds, but he quickly recovered and retorted, "I don't know dad, I'm your son, remember. Many people say I take after you. But come to think of it, I don't go declaring love to any of them like you do. And I'm not married either." Terry sighed as his son hit a nerve. 'Touché' he thought. He didn't have time to explain his personal matters with his son. He picked his things and proceeded upstairs. His left foot stopped mid-air when he heard his son speak again. "Why the hell did you cut off my finance?" Henry asked with unhidden anguish. "You know you have got to show me some respect here boy, since you are not the almighty Henry without my money. Speaking of which, you are going to stay a week without, to teach you some manners. I've spoilt you too much and that's why you have the gall to speak to Terry Yawson this way. Don't make me take away your car, and other benefits too Kobby, after all it's illegal at your age, since this is not the states. Good night." Terry said and continued upstairs. He was almost off the stairs when 'BANG' he turned to the loud noise. Terry rushed downstairs to see what his son had done. "HENRY!!!" He shouted, a vein popping on his forehead, showing how furious he was. This boy, he just broke his wife's favorite vase. This vase was one of a kind as it was a limited edition by a famous potter in London. Sarah, his wife, brought it with her after attaining it through a lot of difficulty. Henry just heartlessly destroyed his own mother's priced possession. "What? Is not like you care about her or this thing." He said, without a trace of remorse. "How dare you little…" "No, don't, please. He is just acting out, please. Spare him, I beg you." Terry raised his hand, about to hit his son for the first time when, his mother Rose appeared before him, out of nowhere to plead on Henry's behalf. Terry reluctantly withdrew his hand and chillingly said, "You are going to tell your mother what you've done and pay for it with your allowance." He left with that being said. Henry was in too much shock to respond as realization dawned on him. He looked as if he just came out of a trance. The image of his father almost hitting him for the first time in his life made him realize the gravity of what he had done. He looked down at the broken vase and the remorse finally came. "Oh my God, mom's vase. What have I done? Mom is never going to forgive me for this." Henry said, slumping down. His grandma crouched to comfort him. Henry left her embrace and went upstairs to his room; his day completely ruined. Far in Nima, Ellen and her mother were discussing the events of the day. Ellen told Elena how much fun she had with her friends today, deliberately leaving out the specifics. Elena then steered the conversation to the one thing they had to talk about sooner or later, Aaron. "Ellen, I've been thinking about your father since you left. I hope you don't take this the wrong way but, Aaron Wilson is your father. He has so many means he can take care of you and give you the life that is rightfully yours. My daughter, I've given it a lot of thought and arrived at one conclusion, please Ellen, forgive and accept your father. He can give you everything you ask of him while I can't. I must admit a part of me have always wanted to inquire about him so he could take responsibility of you, even if he, didn't want … me." Elena spoke with firm determination and bitterness. She knew that was the only way she could ensure her daughter's comfort. Ellen had already fallen sick with ulcer, and she didn't know what she would do if anything happened to her baby girl. She was grateful to hear someone took care of her little girl in school and wanted to personally thank the first young man her daughter spoke highly of, but Ellen brushed it aside. Ellen remained silent as if deep in thought as her mother spoke. She knew deep within her that her mother was right, but she couldn't bring herself to accept it. She was too upset with Aaron. "If God forgives all our sins, how much more us humans" the pastor's words echoed in her mind, as if on cue. Something within her changed after she remembered those words. "Mom, why didn't you marry again?" She asked. Elena was taken aback by this question. She expected Ellen to refute her words or retaliate, not ask this question. "I, I didn't want to. You were and still are my only priority, Ama." Elena replied after gaining her composure. Ellen on the other hand was not convinced enough. "I know that mom, but I think it was because you never got over your husband, dead or alive. You clearly still love him mom. Therefore, if you are going to talk to me about forgiveness and living a good life, you should practice it as well. Even you married a billionaire, you also deserve a good and comfortable life too. Besides, he didn't ask for just mine, but more of your forgiveness." Ellen said, matter of factly, stunning her mother. Tears welled up in Elena's eyes for the nth time today as her daughter's words sank in deep to her core. All Ellen said was true, and she knew it as well, she just didn't want to admit it. "You know what? It's late, let's just go to bed and pray about it. Tomorrow God willing, we will know what to do." Elena replied, putting the matter to rest that night for the next day. Ellen agreed and they both went to bed, praying and asking God for strength and protection, as well as wise decision making.
