Chapter 36 - Title: “He Stayed… Even When I Was Hard to Love (Part 2)”

The morning felt different.

Not because the sun was brighter.

Not because the world had changed.

But because something inside Mira had.

She woke up earlier than usual, her eyes slowly adjusting to the soft golden light coming through the curtains. For a moment, she just lay there… thinking.

About last night.

About her words.

About his silence.

And most importantly…

About the way he still chose to stay.

She turned her head slightly.

Arif was still asleep beside her, his face calm, his breathing steady.

He looked peaceful.

And for the first time in a long time…

Mira realized how much he deserved that peace.

Not the chaos she often brought into his life.

But something softer.

Something kinder.

Something better.

Carefully, she got out of bed without making noise.

Today… she wanted to try.

Not just say it.

But actually show it.

In the kitchen, she stood there for a few seconds, unsure of what to do.

A small smile appeared on her lips.

"I guess… I'll start with breakfast."

It wasn't something she did often.

But today wasn't "often."

Today was different.

She tried her best—making tea, toast, and a simple omelette. It wasn't perfect. The toast was a little too brown, and the omelette slightly uneven.

But it was made with something she hadn't used enough before.

Care.

When Arif finally woke up, he looked around, confused.

"Mira?" he called softly.

"I'm in the kitchen," she replied.

He walked in slowly… and stopped.

The table was set.

Simple.

But warm.

And Mira stood there, nervously playing with her fingers.

"I… made breakfast," she said, almost shyly.

Arif blinked, surprised.

"You didn't have to…"

"I know," she interrupted gently. "But I wanted to."

There was a pause.

And then… a small smile appeared on his face.

"Thank you."

Just two words.

But they meant everything.

They sat together, eating in silence.

But it wasn't the heavy, uncomfortable silence from before.

This one felt… peaceful.

Mira glanced at him a few times, her heart beating softly.

"Is it okay?" she finally asked.

Arif took another bite and nodded.

"It's good."

She let out a small breath of relief.

Days passed.

And slowly…

Things began to change.

Mira started noticing the little things.

The way Arif always made sure she had eaten.

The way he quietly fixed things around the house without being asked.

The way he listened—even when she was just talking about random things.

All those moments she used to ignore…

Now felt so important.

And she changed too.

Not overnight.

Not perfectly.

But genuinely.

There were still moments when she felt angry.

Still times when her words wanted to come out sharp and fast.

But now…

She paused.

Even if just for a second.

And that second made a difference.

One evening, Arif came home late again.

The old Mira would have reacted instantly.

But this time…

She didn't.

She looked at him.

Really looked.

His tired eyes.

His slow steps.

His quiet sigh.

"You look exhausted," she said softly.

Arif seemed surprised.

"A little," he admitted.

"Sit," she said gently. "I'll bring you water."

That moment…

It was small.

But it meant everything.

Arif watched her as she walked away.

There was something different about her.

Something calm.

Something warm.

Something he had always hoped for…

But never forced.

That night, as they sat together, he finally spoke.

"You've changed."

Mira looked down slightly.

"I'm trying," she said.

He nodded.

"I can see that."

There was a pause.

And then he added softly,

"I'm proud of you."

Her heart skipped a beat.

Proud.

No one had ever said that to her like this before.

Not in a way that felt so real.

"I just don't want to hurt you anymore," she whispered.

Arif looked at her, his eyes filled with something deep.

"You never meant to hurt me," he said.

"I know," she replied. "But I still did."

He reached for her hand.

"And now you're choosing not to. That's what matters."

Love isn't about never making mistakes.

It's about learning from them.

Growing from them.

And choosing to do better… every single day.

Mira knew she wasn't perfect.

She still had her flaws.

Still had her moments.

But now…

She also had awareness.

And that changed everything.

One night, as they stood on the balcony, watching the stars, Mira leaned her head on Arif's shoulder.

"Thank you," she said quietly.

"For what?" he asked.

"For staying… even when I was hard to love."

Arif smiled softly.

"You were never hard to love," he replied.

"Just hard to understand sometimes."

Mira laughed gently.

"That sounds about right."

They stood there in comfortable silence.

The night breeze soft around them.

The world quiet.

But their hearts… finally at peace.

Because love isn't about finding the perfect person.

It's about growing together.

Understanding each other.

And choosing each other…

Again and again.

And this time…

Mira wasn't just loving him.

She was learning how to love him the right way.,
