The story of Prophet Adam (A.S.) is the beginning of human history. It is a story filled with wisdom, lessons, and guidance for all of humanity. In this first part, we will explore his creation, the honor Allah gave him, and the events that took place before and after his creation.
The Decision to Create Adam (A.S.)
Before the creation of human beings, the universe already existed. The angels were created from light, and the jinn were created from smokeless fire. Among the jinn was a being named Iblis, who was very عبادah (devoted in worship).
Then Allah made a great announcement to the angels. He said that He would create a خليفة (vicegerent) on Earth—a being who would live on the Earth and act according to His guidance.
The angels, who always obey Allah, asked respectfully:
"Will You place in it someone who will spread corruption and shed blood, while we glorify You and praise You?"
Allah replied:
"I know that which you do not know."
This shows that Allah's wisdom is beyond human understanding. Even when we do not understand something, we must trust His plan.
The Creation of Adam (A.S.)
Allah created Adam (A.S.) from clay. The Qur'an describes different stages of this creation—dust, then clay, then molded form. After shaping him perfectly, Allah breathed into him from His روح (spirit), giving him life.
Thus, Adam (A.S.) became the first human being and the first prophet.
Allah honored him in a way no other creation had been honored before.
Teaching Adam Knowledge
One of the greatest honors given to Prophet Adam (A.S.) was knowledge. Allah taught him the names of all things—something the angels did not know.
Then Allah asked the angels to name those things, but they replied:
"Glory be to You! We have no knowledge except what You have taught us."
Then Adam (A.S.) demonstrated the knowledge Allah had given him.
This event showed the superiority of knowledge. It teaches us that knowledge is a great blessing and a source of honor.
The Command to Prostrate
After showing Adam's knowledge, Allah commanded the angels to prostrate before him—not as worship, but as a sign of respect and honor.
All the angels obeyed immediately. However, Iblis refused.
The Arrogance of Iblis
Iblis refused to bow to Adam (A.S.) out of pride and arrogance. He said:
"I am better than him. You created me from fire, and You created him from clay."
This was the first act of disobedience in history.
Because of his arrogance, Allah cursed Iblis and expelled him from His mercy.
However, Iblis asked for time until the Day of Judgment, and Allah granted it. Iblis then promised that he would mislead human beings and try to take them away from the right path.
This is why Shaytan is the enemy of mankind.
Adam (A.S.) in Paradise
After his creation, Allah placed Prophet Adam (A.S.) in Jannah (Paradise). There, he lived in peace and comfort.
However, Adam (A.S.) felt lonely. So Allah created a companion for him—his wife, Hawwa (Eve).
Together, they lived in Paradise and enjoyed its blessings.
The One Command
Allah allowed Adam (A.S.) and Hawwa (A.S.) to enjoy everything in Paradise, with just one restriction:
They were told not to go near a specific tree.
Allah warned them that Shaytan would try to mislead them.
The Deception of Shaytan
Iblis (Shaytan) did not forget his promise. He began to whisper to Adam (A.S.) and Hawwa (A.S.).
He said to them:
"Your Lord only forbade you from this tree so that you would not become angels or live forever."
He even swore that he was giving sincere advice.
Slowly, he deceived them.
The Mistake
Eventually, Adam (A.S.) and Hawwa (A.S.) ate from the forbidden tree.
As soon as they did, they realized their mistake. Their sense of shame became clear, and they tried to cover themselves with leaves from Paradise.
They immediately understood that they had disobeyed Allah.
Repentance
Unlike Iblis, who was arrogant, Adam (A.S.) and Hawwa (A.S.) turned back to Allah in repentance.
They prayed:
"Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will surely be among the losers."
Allah, who is Most Merciful, accepted their repentance.
This teaches us a powerful lesson:
Humans may make mistakes, but the best of them are those who repent sincerely.
The Descent to Earth
After this event, Allah commanded Adam (A.S.), Hawwa (A.S.), and Shaytan to descend to Earth.
Allah said that the Earth would be their place of residence for a time.
He also promised that guidance would come to them, and whoever followed His guidance would have no fear and no grief.
Thus began human life on Earth.
Lessons from Part One
This part of the story gives us many important lessons:
Knowledge is a great honor
Arrogance leads to destruction
Shaytan is our enemy
Humans can make mistakes
Repentance brings forgiveness
Allah's mercy is greater than our sins

It teaches us who we are, where we came from, and what our purpose is.
From his creation to his repentance, every part of his story is filled with guidance,
