Chapter 15 - Homicide by Superpower

"Then I'll correct your view. I will definitely make you apologize to me on the show and say, 'I was wrong.'"

On the live TV broadcast, the psychic named Washimi Jiro gave a very strong response to Shinichi Kudo's words. He was a somewhat fat man, looking rather simple-minded.

Due to technical reasons, for Takato, who was used to ultra-clear live broadcasts before his Crossing, the TV broadcast quality didn't seem very clear to him. However, he could indeed see that the person on TV wearing a school uniform was Shinichi Kudo.

Soon, under the host's prodding, the two prepared to begin their confrontation. Staff brought out a table, and the camera zoomed in to a close-up, showing several metal spoons placed on it.

Then the host walked forward. The host was a tall, thin middle-aged man, wearing a pink shirt under a white suit, with a white silk scarf with black spots around his neck, looking like a comedian.

The host picked up a spoon from the table and tapped it hard on the tabletop, indicating that it was indeed a normal metal spoon.

"It is indeed an ordinary spoon!"

He picked it up, showed it to the camera, and then handed it to Washimi Jiro.

"Please begin."

Washimi Jiro took the spoon and also placed it in front of the camera.

"I will bend this spoon with my psychic power!"

Then he placed the bowl of the spoon face down on his left palm, and his right thumb began to gently caress it. Soon, the spoon handle began to curl up, and the live audience also began to gasp in admiration at the opportune moment.

He released his hand, picked up another spoon from the table, and compared it with the one in his hand. It was clearly bent.

"This is the difference."

Washimi Jiro showed a triumphant expression.

The camera quickly turned to the audience, who applauded and exclaimed, "How amazing!" Then the camera briefly paused on a beautiful high school Female student, capturing a close-up of her expression.

Seeing this close-up, Takato was stunned. This iconic hairstyle, wasn't it Ran!

"Isn't that just a Magician trick!"

Hattori, watching the live broadcast, said impatiently.

"My psychokinesis is of a high level worldwide."

The camera turned back to Washimi Jiro, who was boastfully praising himself, while Shinichi Kudo, who had been sitting by the camera, shook his head helplessly at this moment and stood up to walk to the table.

The camera didn't focus on Washimi Jiro, but quickly turned to Shinichi Kudo, showing a close-up of him picking up a spoon. Just like the host had done earlier, he forcefully tapped the spoon on the tabletop, then pinched the handle and held it in front of him, shaking it slightly a few times. The spoon began to bend from where it was pinched!

Then Shinichi Kudo blew a breath towards the pinched part, released his hand, and the entire spoon had broken into two pieces. The scene immediately erupted in even more enthusiastic applause and gasps.

"How could this be! So amazing!"

The host shouted from the side, and the camera immediately turned to Washimi Jiro's stunned face.

"Anyone can do it, as long as their fingers are flexible enough and they practice!"

Shinichi Kudo explained, and the camera turned to the audience again, pausing once more on Ran's face. At this moment, Ran had an expression of admiration, continuously applauding.

"Yours is at best just a Magician trick! I bent it with psychokinesis! It's genuine spoon bending!"

Washimi Jiro's face flushed red as he shouted his accusation, his simple-minded face filled with grievance.

"Why won't you believe me!"

"Really, any old charlatan can get on TV. Can such a simple Magician trick be called a psychic power?"

Hattori Heiji looked at Shinichi Kudo, who was making a big splash on TV, with some reluctance, "If Osaka TV also did this kind of show, the guest would definitely be me! Shinichi Kudo of Kanto! Sooner or later, I'll have a real showdown with you!"

"Huh? Was that a Magician trick?"

Kazuha, completely unable to understand, began to ask.

"That spoon was a specially made Magician Tools."

Takato explained that, strictly speaking, most everyday objects in a Magician's hand could be specially made Tools.

"Mr. Washimi, didn't you learn when you were little that people shouldn't lie?"

On the live TV broadcast, the host suddenly stepped forward at this moment, speaking in a mocking tone.

"I've always thought lying is unforgivable. Do you know shame!"

He shouted, shattering Washimi Jiro's pride.

"Are you insulting me?"

With a wronged look in his eyes, Washimi Jiro questioned the host.

"Even if you're insulted, there's nothing you can do. Who told you to fake it!"

The host showed no signs of stopping, instead continuing to speak with even more intensity.

"This host is too much!"

Watching this scene on the screen, Kazuha felt sorry for Washimi Jiro, while Hattori and Takato on the side had no reaction.

"It must be a script written long ago, for the sake of the show's effect."

Hattori said this in response to Kazuha's reaction.

Takato also agreed with Hattori's statement. Most live performances would have a script; otherwise, relying solely on the on-stage participants' impromptu performance could easily lead to awkward silences and broadcasting incidents.

However, Takato was now wondering why he was meeting Shinichi Kudo in this way. Had this plot appeared in the original work? Why did it feel familiar but he couldn't recall it?

On TV, the argument continued, Washimi Jiro shouted, "I've just had special abilities that you don't have since I was little!"

The host, however, was dismissive of Washimi's attitude.

"I see. Since you say so, why don't you prove it to us right here. What do you all think! Would you mind showing us?"

Seemingly feeling the atmosphere on set heating up, the host walked to the front of the stage and said this to the audience.

And this time, when the camera focused on Ran, she didn't show excitement, but rather some confusion, so the camera quickly passed over her, moving towards the more enthusiastic audience. On stage, a staff member quickly brought up a chair for the host to sit down.

Facing such a development, Takato and Hattori showed knowing expressions. This was clearly a script prepared to liven up the scene, only the two guests involved were probably unaware.

"Kill me with your psychic power!"

The host said astonishing words in a calm tone.

This made Takato, outside the screen, a little dumbfounded. Did Japanese variety shows go this far? And in front of Shinichi Kudo? This was a sure way to die!

On the live broadcast, the audience also gasped, while Washimi's face was calm, a silence after extreme anger, waiting to erupt.

"You'll regret it!"

"Regret? Go on, make me regret it."

The host still showed disdain.

"We all want to see your psychic power. Not just me, but everyone here, and the audience in front of their televisions, all want to witness it!"

The camera showed Shinichi Kudo, who kept shaking his head.

"You look down on me and insist that my psychic power is a sham. Go to the other world and regret it slowly! As you wish, I will kill you! Everyone else, step back!"

The stage lights dimmed at the appropriate moment, everyone moved aside, leaving only the host and Washimi on stage.

Accompanied by eerie music, Washimi stood behind the host and began to make strange movements, seemingly squeezing something in the air, which made everyone laugh.

The host, who had been sitting there, was initially all smiles, but soon, the silk scarf around his neck suddenly lifted. The two ends of the knotted scarf, behind his neck, seemed to be pulled up by some force from behind, and the host showed a pained expression.

He began to forcefully tear at the scarf around his neck, but it seemed to be held by some greater force, and he couldn't pull it off no matter how hard he tried. His entire body seemed to be slowly pulled up by a force from behind, his knees slightly bent, as he stood up from the chair.

His neck was tilted back, as if this force was still pulling his scarf. The host showed an expression of suffocation, struggled for a while, then fell down, no longer moving.

The scene was in chaos, the lights came on, and staff shouted "Mr. Harada" as they rushed onto the stage, shaking him repeatedly. Takato saw, from the side of the camera, Ran running from the audience to Shinichi Kudo's side in the guest seating.

On stage, the host, Harada Takayuki, let out a painful gasp amidst the staff's shouts, struggling to cover his chest, but before he could complete the action, he completely lost his strength, falling there, lifeless.

"Are you satisfied now? I did all this because of you fools who refuse to believe in psychic powers!"

Washimi Jiro glanced at Shinichi Kudo, who had just rushed onto the stage, and said triumphantly.
