Chapter 14 - Live Broadcast

The Bounty System has been unlocked!

Looking at the newly appeared text, Takato carefully examined the words "Bounty: 130" and immediately understood what it was.

In the game "Bounty Detective," completing a normal case with an "S" rating would earn 50 bounty, "A" rating 40 bounty, "B" rating 30 bounty, and "C" rating 20 bounty. Besides these, there were also some extremely difficult cases where the bounty was calculated separately.

Now he had 130 bounty, which was consistent with the theoretical value of his three completed settlements. This Bounty System was exactly the same as the game's setting!

In the game, bounty only had two functions.

One was to accumulate it. When the bounty reached a certain amount, one could apply to participate in a Detective rating assessment. Passing the test would raise the Detective's rating.

However, in the game, raising the rating was used to improve one's ranking within the game. What use would this be in the real world?

The second was to spend 100 bounty to purchase a special item called "Hourglass of Time." This item allowed players to restart and re-experience a case they were not satisfied with. In short, it was a tool for re-enacting cases.

However, as it stood, Takato couldn't use either of these two functions of the bounty right now.

But this time wasn't without any gains. He needed to find an opportunity to claim that special item. Once his identity information was settled, he finally wouldn't have to live in such constant fear anymore!

Ever since coming to this world, first there was the original body killed by the Black Organization, then settling in Osaka doing odd jobs, only to once again feel like he brushed past the Black Organization.

The original body's identity was connected to the Black Organization, a starting condition that left Takato feeling insecure living in this world. Therefore, even if there was something suspicious about his original body's father's cremation, Takato had no choice but to immediately use his body to fake his death and escape; to obtain a new identity, even the hacking he detested before crossing over, he had to do.

Besides saving Kana Mizuguchi and thereby changing Natsuki Kosui's fate, which he genuinely wanted to do, everything else he did was out of necessity to live safely in this world.

Even though this world was the world of "Detective Conan" that Takato was familiar with and loved, after only a few days in this world, Takato felt like he was living in slow motion, both physically and mentally exhausted.

But thankfully, everything was about to end!

After a night of effort, two attacks on Japan's household registration system via foreign servers finally succeeded. Under the cover of these two obvious cyberattacks, he hacked into the household registration system, leaving a deeply hidden backdoor, and added the household registration information for a person named "Akechi Takato"!

Now, Akechi Takato was a truly legitimate Japanese citizen who could live openly in this world!

Having done all this, he no longer needed to stay at the internet cafe. Takato declined the store manager Kinoshita Kawashi's offer to stay.

The income from odd jobs these past few days was significantly more than the cash he initially brought from Mitarai Kyosuke's house. At least for a while, Takato wouldn't have to worry about money.

Now, it was time to consider the next plan — go to Tokyo and meet Shinichi Kudo! To prepare for the future confrontation with the Black Organization!

Leaving the internet cafe, Takato went to a nearby large shopping mall and began picking out a windbreaker. After all, the first windbreaker he bought would become a miraculous windbreaker with special effects, so he naturally had to choose a good one that he could wear often.

After a long time of choosing, Takato finally bought a dark blue long windbreaker. Its material wasn't thick, so he could wear it unless it was a very hot day.

After paying and receiving the clothes, in Takato's eyes, the windbreaker flashed with a light, then returned to normal, and at that moment, the settlement panel timely displayed text.

"special item: The Detective's Magical Trench Coat (Claimed)"

The scene just now was only visible to Takato. After the windbreaker came into Takato's hands, it was no longer an ordinary windbreaker, but a miraculous windbreaker that, once worn, made people not consciously think about his identity!

The original body, confirmed dead, the perfectly added identity in the household registration system, plus this clothing—Takato felt an unprecedented sense of ease!

If only a "High School Detective" shouting at him in an Osaka accent hadn't appeared!

"Hey! Detective Brother!"

Just as Takato changed into the windbreaker and walked out of the mall, he ran into Hattori Heiji and Toyama Kazuha.

"Heiji! That's so rude of you to call him that. Mr. Akechi is older than you, after all!"

Kazuha complained about Hattori's behavior from the side.

"Hattori and... Miss Toyama, what a coincidence, what are you doing here?"

Takato originally wanted to call Kazuha directly, but then he thought that was not right; he shouldn't be very familiar with them.

"As for the nickname Detective Brother, I don't mind it."

"See? Detective Brother himself doesn't mind."

Hattori heard Takato say this and responded to Kazuha's earlier remark, then continued to talk to Takato.

"Speaking of which, I went to the internet cafe to look for you just now and found out you just quit today. What do you think, have you come to your senses? Being a Detective is better, right!"

Hattori said somewhat triumphantly, then looked at Takato's new clothes.

"This outfit is pretty good, it really looks like a Great Detective!"

Of course, why else would this clothing be called the "The Detective's Magical Trench Coat"?

Takato thought to himself, then asked, "Speaking of which, is there something you needed me for?"

"Regarding yesterday's case, I still want to talk to you about it. It's almost dinner time, and I've booked a good spot. Let's go eat together!"

Hattori invited Takato, but Kazuha, upon hearing this, suddenly leaned into Hattori's ear and whispered.

"The place you're talking about, it's not the same restaurant you invited me to, is it?"

"Yes, it's just adding another seat, what's the big deal?"

Hattori didn't quite understand Kazuha's meaning.

"Ah..."

Seeing Hattori respond like that, Kazuha stepped back, her face a little red as she replied.

"It's no big deal."

Seeing them talk like this, Takato remembered that when they were investigating the case yesterday, didn't they mention that the reservation for that restaurant was about to expire and they wouldn't make it? Was it the same place today?

Takato was a bit speechless about this situation. Hattori Heiji really was a dense guy; Kazuha clearly wanted to go eat with him alone! No wonder they hadn't confirmed their relationship even after twenty years of watching them outside the show.

However, Hattori's enthusiasm was hard to refuse, and he really wanted to see if the Police had found any new information about yesterday's case. Besides, they wouldn't confirm their relationship until next year anyway, so this moment didn't make much difference.

Arriving at the restaurant, which was a very unique crab cuisine establishment, the three sat down at a table in the main hall.

Looking at the packed hall, it was indeed a restaurant where it was difficult to get a meal without a reservation.

There was a huge television set in the hall, playing a live program called "New Sensation Great Survey."

"Speaking of which, that victim definitely didn't act alone!"

Hattori started discussing the case as soon as he sat down. "Given the situation at your internet cafe yesterday, someone was clearly destroying evidence. That victim definitely had an accomplice!"

"I think so too, but the person is dead, and all the data has been deleted, leaving no clues at all."

Takato echoed, and after a few words with Hattori Heiji, he knew that the Police hadn't found any deeper information either.

"Today's showdown will be between a psychic and a "High School Detective"."

"One is Washimi Jiro, who possesses innate psychic abilities. He will show us the true existence of psychic powers."

"The other is the Great Detective, Shinichi Kudo, known for his extraordinary deductive abilities and insight! Can he uncover the secrets within?"

Hattori and Takato, who were discussing the case, were now drawn in by the host's words on the television. They stopped their conversation and turned to look at the TV screen.

"My psychic ability has no secrets, tricks, or mechanisms at all, because this is not magic!"

"But excuse me, Mr. Washimi, I'm actually skeptical of psychic abilities, I apologize. Kudo, what do you think?"

"If you really want me to say whether I believe in psychic abilities, I can only say that I do not believe in them."

A young "High School Detective" appeared on the television screen, and the subtitles specifically displayed his name: Shinichi Kudo!

"Is that... Shinichi Kudo?"

Hattori Heiji muttered to himself, watching the live broadcast.
