Luffy stared at the girl, his expression blank. "Well... yes," he replied, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

"What?" Nami asked, confused. Didn't she just say she wanted to be a pirate?

"Yeah... Pirates are scum," Luffy said, his brow furrowing in place of his usual smile. "I've seen it. Pirates have hurt me... people I care about." Bluejam flashed into his mind. Just thinking about him put him in a bad mood.

"So why do you want to be one?" Nami asked, incredulous.

Luffy smiled, thinking about the pirates who inspired his dream. "Because that's not the kind of pirate I want to be. As a kid, I met a group of them who are some of the coolest people in the world," he replied. "They were a rowdy crew, but they were kind. The captain helped me a lot back then. They were the ones who made me want to be a pirate."

"That kind of pirate doesn't exist! You're lying!" Nami shouted.

"I'm not! The captain's name is Shanks!" Luffy shouted.

Nami was getting annoyed. If she heard correctly and Luffy wasn't lying, that meant he'd been dealt a bad hand in life. Just thinking about it only made her angrier. "Pirates only create misery and nothing else," she hissed through gritted teeth.

"So you're saying I'm just going to create misery?" Luffy asked seriously, pausing and looking her in the eyes.

The girl gasped. She hadn't meant that.

Luffy saw the girl's reaction and turned away, focusing again on his stretch. "Even if you think I will, I don't plan on making anyone miserable."

Nami decided to remain silent instead of answering.

"I want to be a pirate because, for me, being a pirate means being free. I want to be free to do whatever I want, whenever I want. And that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to go even further. I'm going to be the freest person there is, I'm going to be the Pirate King," Luffy declared with complete confidence.

Nami couldn't lie to herself; he certainly made freedom sound good. "You... Pirate King?" she asked, laughing. Even in the midst of her anger, she couldn't help it; for an idiot like the boy in front of her to become Pirate King was, at the very least, ridiculous. She paused. Come to think of it, she had seen him do crazy things. The image of Luffy surrounded by the moon flashed through her mind... Yes, she had seen things she wouldn't have been able to believe were real if she hadn't seen them with her own eyes. But come on! Pirate King? That title was unattainable for anyone, let alone an idiot.

Luffy crouched down and slowly stood up. He didn't feel much better, but he could probably move, and that was enough for now. "Yeah!" he exclaimed. "Are you joining my crew or what?"

"Of course not! I still think pirates are scum, and that means you'll be scum too when you become one," Nami stated, looking at him with utter contempt.

"Yes, you'll definitely join," Luffy said with a smile on his lips.

"What the hell! No!" argued the orange-haired girl, indignant with the boy she was talking to.

"Too late," Luffy replied, now laughing.

"It's not too late! I won't become a pirate! I will never become a pirate!" Nami shouted, jumping up from her chair, huffing and puffing, with a mad look in her eyes.

Luffy paused; he could practically feel his anger and something else... perhaps sadness. "Fine," he said, holding his gaze. "But I won't give up. I'm definitely going to convince you. You have a dream, and something is stopping you from pursuing it."

Nami's eyes widened. How could he have known?

"I'm going to convince you to be a pirate with me. That way we can chase our dreams together," said the boy in the straw hat, looking Nami straight in the eyes.

The redhead couldn't help but blush, and instead of looking back at Luffy, she turned around and gathered her things from the table. Nami sighed angrily and prepared to leave the room to end the conversation.

"Until then, don't tell me what your dream is. I don't want to know until you agree to be a pirate with me," the boy said from behind the girl as she walked away.

Nami paused and turned away. "And what makes you think we'll be together long enough for you to pull it off?"

"I just have a feeling," Luffy smiled.

Nami huffed again and turned around, opening the door with an angry expression. Luffy was so irritating! She slammed the door shut and bumped into someone approaching the room she had just left.

"What's got you so upset?" Zoro asked. The swordsman was on his way to find Luffy and Nami for dinner when she came out of Luffy's room.

Nami said nothing as she tapped the bandaged, green-haired teenager on the shoulder. She grimaced as she walked on. Zoro was as strong as a wall. She rubbed her shoulder. Maybe he needs ice.

Zoro frowned curiously, but instead of following Nami as she walked away, he went into the room she had just left. He opened the door and saw Luffy getting out of bed. "What's wrong with that witch?" he asked indifferently.

"I HEARD YOU, YOU IDIOT!"

Zoro closed the door as quickly as he could. Just in time, it seemed, when a loud bang echoed through the wood.

Luffy laughed, walking towards his vest and hat, "I asked him to join my crew."

"What did you do?" Zoro asked incredulously.

"I asked him to join the crew," the boy in the straw hat repeated, putting on his vest and sandals as his hat rode up onto his head. He chuckled to himself. Zoro grimaced.

The swordsman stared, speechless. He already felt a growing headache. "Why on earth did you do that?"

"What do you mean? It's great! Although he does have a habit of peeping," Luffy replied with another laugh.

"I DON'T!".

Zoro looked curiously at the door from which the voice came: "Do I even want to know?"

"Probably not," Luffy said, walking towards his friend, "but she'll definitely join in."

"IT'S NOT ME!"

As they approached the door, they heard footsteps receding. Zoro sighed. He was going to have to get used to having constant headaches. "Dinner's in one of the back rooms. Saul told me to come and get them," the Verdet said to the boy walking beside him.

"Saul?" Luffy asked.

"Yes, he's the owner of the place. He's let me stay here," the verdet replied in a low voice, knowing what was coming.

Luffy stared at his friend in disbelief. Zoro had said he'd be alone!

"I know, I know. I said I wanted to be alone. But I think I needed to be alone to find this shop," the swordsman said earnestly. He didn't know why he felt this way, but that's how it was.
