Holly Wyatt paused, her blinking quickening. Then, she furtively pressed her ear against the door.
'This is so damn frustrating! Master Thornton refuses to say who told the cub! He just keeps taking the blame. I want to bury him in the back garden!'
Silas Thornton's inner voice faded. Holly bit her lower lip, then slowly and hesitantly opened the door. Peeking her head out, she stared at his back.
Silas's imposing figure visibly stiffened. He stopped in his tracks and slowly turned, his dark eyes locking onto Holly.
"Are you hungry?" Silas asked out of the blue, slowly walking toward her.
'It's over! I'm screwed! Why was the cub hiding behind the door watching me? Did she start hating me because of what the Wolf Clan was saying?'
Silas's thoughts once again echoed in Holly's ears.
Her gaze fell upon his tense tail. The bald patch on its tip had already sprouted fine, downy fur, as soft and new as a wolf cub's.
'Awooo~ The cub won't even look at me! She must hate me!'
