"Hey, little one, please stop kicking!"
Zhao Xiangjun coaxed the child, putting on a troubled expression.
Just then, the mother noticed what was happening. Before Zhao Xiangjun could react, she yanked the child over and slapped her twice!
Zhao Xiangjun jumped in fright and quickly stood up to shield the child.
"Ma'am, please don't hit her! Don't hit her!"
She was frantic, quickly explaining, "The clothes can be washed if they get dirty! Please don't hit her! She's so little, she doesn't know any better!"
The mother had slapped her child because she was afraid she would have to pay for damages.
Since Zhao Xiangjun was pleading for the girl, the mother naturally stopped.
Zhao Xiangjun breathed a sigh of relief. Her only intention had been to remind the child to stop kicking. She hadn't meant to blame her and certainly didn't want the girl to get slapped.
She felt guilty and sad.
