Tristan Sterling was stunned by her shout.
He stared blankly at the furious woman before him and instinctively answered, "Picking up my phone..."
The man's voice was quiet, but it hit Holly Sinclair with a deafening wave of embarrassment.
She glanced down, and sure enough, his phone was lying on the ground just a little way in front of his wheelchair.
'Okay, I misunderstood.'
"Did you think I was going to jump into the lake?"
Tristan quickly realized what had happened. He looked at her steadily, his hoarse voice filled with anticipation.
He was hoping she was worried about him...
Holly was speechless. She just silently bent down, picked up the phone, and handed it to him.
She didn't dare to meet his gaze the entire time.
'It would be too awkward.'
"Holly, if I died, would you be sad?"
His gaze never left her face, desperate to see some kind of emotional reaction.
Even the slightest flicker of emotion would have been enough for him.
