Wendy Wyatt jumped, startled by her friend's outburst, and asked hurriedly.
Holly Sinclair pulled something out of her pocket, her brow furrowed in annoyance. "Candice asked me to give this peace charm to him, and I forgot."
Candice wasn't in the best of health, so Holly had gone to a temple to get this peace charm for her on her first birthday.
The little one had said she wanted to lend the peace charm to her daddy so that nothing bad would happen to him.
A peace charm couldn't guarantee safety, and superstitions weren't to be trusted.
But it couldn't hurt to have a good omen.
'No!'
'I have to give the peace charm to Tristan Sterling.'
'Otherwise, if something happened to him during the surgery, I wouldn't know how to explain it to my daughter.'
Just then, a nurse came out of the operating room.
"Excuse me, has the surgery started yet?"
Holly Sinclair hurried forward to ask.
"Not yet. They're still prepping," the nurse replied.
