My eyes watered.
It had taken such immense pressure to stop all the chaotic thoughts in my head.
I had never had so many at once.
People were dying with each second I was wasting away thinking.
I stared at the sky. Strome was up there somehow, but the stars had never looked so close.
Fashire's roar shook the air.
His dragon form twisted through the sky, violet flames pouring from his jaws as he carved into Paloma's writhing mass. Chunks of darkness fell away, dissolving before they hit the ground, but more grew back in their place.
He was hurting her, but it wasn't enough.
Just as it wouldn't be enough if I did the same, too, and I didn't have an outlet to attack when the lines were useless against her.
Fashire hadn't wanted to leave my side earlier, but I had begged him to distract her from me.
Everyone was doing something.
And I was useless, watching people die because I didn't have enough power to stop it.
