Dwelling on the past would do me no good.
The phantom ache in my shoulder had faded the moment I pulled my thoughts away from it, and I refused to let that memory control me any longer. I had not forgotten what Fashire had done. I would never forget.
But letting it consume me now, when there were far greater threats looming, was not something I could afford.
Slin's presence had been so comforting, and he had stayed with me on that balcony until I was fully at ease. The repeated check-ins from the officials had been annoying, and shortly after we had barely seen the nobles, there was an important meeting where Fashire and I were supposed to be brought up to speed on what had happened in our absence.
Their mention of our absence made me remember what had happened, including Fashire's touch.
It made me feel slightly conflicted, but I had forced myself to accept it the way I had accepted my past on that balcony.
