Chapter 11 - Chapter 1: The First Rain

The town of Willow Creek was the kind of place where nothing much ever changed. The same streets, the same people, the same quiet evenings.

And in the middle of that stillness… there was Aarav.

Aarav lived a life that was simple on the outside but heavy on the inside. Every morning, he woke up at exactly 6:30, made himself a cup of tea, and sat near the small window of his rented room. From there, he could see the road—people walking, children laughing, life moving forward.

But he never felt a part of it.

Life had taught him too early that attachments only lead to pain.

At the age of twelve, he lost both his parents in an accident. Since then, he had built walls around his heart—strong walls, unbreakable walls.

Or at least… that's what he believed.

By day, he worked at a small bookstore called Pages & Dreams. It wasn't a fancy place—just wooden shelves, old books, and the comforting smell of paper.

But for Aarav, it was enough.

Books didn't leave. Books didn't betray.

They stayed.

That evening was like any other—quiet, slow, predictable.

Until the sky changed.

Dark clouds gathered without warning. Within minutes, thunder echoed, and rain began pouring heavily. The sound of raindrops hitting the roof filled the entire bookstore.

Aarav looked outside briefly, then went back to arranging books.

That's when the door suddenly burst open.

A girl rushed inside, almost slipping on the wet floor. Her clothes were completely soaked, and her hair clung to her face.

She looked around, slightly embarrassed.

"I'm really sorry," she said, trying to catch her breath. "The rain started suddenly… can I stay here for a while?"

Aarav looked at her.

And for the first time in a long time… he didn't look away quickly.

There was something different about her.

Not just her beauty—but the way her eyes held both fear and strength at the same time.

"You don't need to ask," Aarav replied calmly. "It's a bookstore."

She smiled softly.

"Still… thank you."

She walked toward a corner and picked up a random book, trying to act normal—but her trembling hands gave her away.

Aarav noticed.

Without saying anything, he walked to the counter, took a clean towel, and placed it near her.

"You'll catch a cold," he said.

She looked surprised.

"Thanks… umm…?"

"Aarav."

"I'm Meera."

And just like that… a story began.
