The silence in the university cafe was suffocating. Light Yagami took a slow sip of his black coffee, feeling L's piercing gaze on him. The clock was ticking. Forty seconds had passed since Light looked at his watch, and yet, L sat there, alive, breathing, and biting his thumb with that annoying, calculated calmness.

L leaned forward, his voice a low monotone. "Light-kun, you've been staring at that clock for exactly forty-two seconds. Is there something significant about that number? Or were you waiting for a heart to stop?"
Light didn't flinch. He laughed, a natural, tired sound. "Actually, Ryuga, I was waiting for my phone to vibrate. I told my friend to call me if our professor canceled the late lecture. I'm exhausted, and I'd rather not stay here if I don't have to. Your paranoia is starting to get interesting, though. Do you really think Kira is sitting right in front of you?"
[Scene 3: The Second Move]
L didn't blink. "90%. That was my certainty. Now... it's 85%. You're good, Light-kun. Too good."
But Light had a trump card. Earlier that morning, he had instructed Misa through a cryptic message to execute a specific criminal at exactly 11:00 AM—the time they were supposed to be together.
Suddenly, the large television in the corner of the cafe broke its broadcast. A news anchor appeared, looking shaken. "Breaking news: The suspect in the Shinjuku kidnapping case has just collapsed during his live trial. Early reports suggest a heart attack."
[Scene 4: The Shattered Certainty]
L's head snapped toward the screen. He quickly checked his laptop, his fingers flying across the keys. The death happened exactly now. While he was staring at Light's hands. While Light was holding nothing but a cup of coffee.
"Impossible," L whispered.
Light stood up, slinging his bag over his shoulder. "If I were Kira, Ryuga, I'd have to be a god to kill someone in a courtroom while sitting here talking to you. Maybe it's time you looked for someone who actually has a motive."
As Light walked away, the grin he hid from the world was predatory. He had just lowered L's suspicion while proving Kira's power was absolute.
