The academy felt heavier that morning.
Not louder. Not quieter.
Just… wrong.
Kai Ryan Korr noticed it immediately.
Every step down the corridor felt like pressure building against his skin.
Like the building itself was aware of him.
Watching.
Waiting.
"…This isn't normal," he muttered.
Students passed by him.
But something was off.
Whispers stopped the moment he came near.
Eyes avoided him completely.
Even those who usually tried to challenge him—
looked away.
Kai frowned slightly.
"…What did I do now…"
A sudden vibration interrupted his thoughts.
A notification appeared.
IMMEDIATE SUMMONS: PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE.
Kai stopped walking.
Completely still.
Silence stretched around him.
"…Principal?" he muttered.
A strange feeling crawled up his spine.
Not fear.
Not excitement.
Something deeper.
Recognition.
Inside his mind—
A whisper.
…Finally…
Kai's eyes sharpened instantly.
"…Don't start."
The voice didn't respond.
But the pressure inside him shifted slightly.
Like something had smiled.
Kai exhaled slowly.
Then moved.
Meanwhile — Academy Training Grounds
Far from him… life continued.
But not normally.
BOOM!!
Rex slammed his fist into a reinforced training dummy.
The ground cracked beneath it.
"…Not enough!" he growled.
"…Still not enough!"
Nearby, Aeris stood motionless.
Cold air spiraled around her fingertips.
Ice formed—
then shattered—
then reformed again.
"…Control," she whispered.
"…Perfect control."
But her expression had changed.
Sharpened.
Focused.
Unyielding.
Mina wiped sweat from her forehead.
"…These exams are insane…"
Then tightened her grip.
"…But I'm not failing."
Ray exhaled sharply.
Wind swirled violently around his arms.
"…If Kai is ahead of us again…"
His eyes narrowed.
"…I'll catch up."
Another student collapsed nearby.
But immediately forced themselves back up.
"No breaks," Mina said coldly.
"…Not anymore."
Rex looked around slowly.
"…We're getting stronger… but it's still not enough."
Aeris didn't answer.
But her ice expanded slightly.
"…It has to be enough."
All of them shared the same silent thought.
Not spoken.
But understood.
We cannot stay behind Kai Ryan Korr anymore.
Principal's Office
The door was massive.
Black wood.
Old symbols carved deep into it.
Faintly glowing.
Kai Ryan Korr stood in front of it.
Still.
Silent.
"…Why does this feel like a trap," he muttered.
The door opened on its own.
No sound.
No warning.
Just pressure.
Kai stepped inside.
The room was too quiet.
Too controlled.
Too deliberate.
And then—
he saw him.
The Principal.
Sitting calmly.
Like he had been waiting for him forever.
"…Kai Ryan Korr," the Principal said softly.
Kai froze.
"…You know my full name?"
A faint smile appeared.
"I know more than that."
The air shifted.
Pressure dropped instantly onto Kai's shoulders.
Heavy.
Suffocating.
Kai's breathing slowed.
"…What is this?" he muttered.
"…Some kind of test?"
The Principal stood slowly.
"…Tell me," he said.
"…How many times have you died?"
Kai's eyes widened.
"…What?"
Silence.
The pressure increased again.
The walls subtly creaked.
Kai clenched his fists.
"…I don't know what you're talking about."
The Principal stepped closer.
"…That answer is false."
Inside Kai's mind—
the whisper returned.
Stronger this time.
He knows.
Kai's breath tightened.
"…Shut up…"
The Principal tilted his head slightly.
"…Something inside you is awake."
Kai froze completely.
Shock.
Clear.
Visible.
"…You can't sense that," Kai Ryan Korr said quietly.
The Principal smiled.
"…I don't need to sense it."
A pause.
"…I've seen it before."
Silence shattered.
Kai's heartbeat rose sharply.
"…Before?" he whispered.
The Principal turned toward the window.
"…You are not the first vessel to enter this academy."
Kai's pupils tightened.
"…Vessel?"
The word felt wrong.
Heavy.
Unnatural.
The Principal continued.
"…And the last one destroyed an entire region."
Silence.
Kai's hands trembled slightly.
Not fear.
Confusion.
Shock.
"…What am I…?" he whispered.
The Principal looked back.
Calm.
Serious.
Absolute.
"…That," he said softly.
"…Is what I intend to find out."
The room darkened slightly.
Not physically.
But mentally.
Like reality itself was tightening.
Kai felt it.
Something inside him—
locking onto him.
Not attacking.
Observing.
Evaluating.
Outside — Academy Grounds
Rex suddenly stopped mid-training.
"…Did you feel that?" he muttered.
Aeris slowly raised her head.
Ice fading around her hands.
"…Something changed," she said quietly.
Ray clenched his fists.
Wind flickered violently.
"…Kai is in trouble."
Mina frowned.
"…Or becoming something else."
Silence.
All of them looked toward the academy building.
Without understanding why.
But unable to look away.
Back in the Office
The Principal spoke again.
Quieter now.
"…Tell me, Kai Ryan Korr…"
A pause.
"…Do you feel it waking up again?"
Kai didn't answer.
But his shadow—
moved.
