Chapter 144 - Chapter 144: Meeting the Kids

Peter downloaded all the relevant memories and transferred them to the second memory unit.

Once everything was ready, he eliminated the remaining clone body by inducing an internal hemorrhage and introducing chemicals into the capsule, accelerating the body's deterioration.

Once he was certain that no one except this universe's Peter could enter the facility, he left and quietly exited Parker Industries, still somewhat stunned by several of the things he had just seen.

Taking a few seconds to reorganize his thoughts, Peter began figuring out what he needed to do next.

Once ready, he headed toward a particular place, one where he might finally find answers to several theories that he and countless others in his previous life had wondered about for years.

Climbing a building, he reached a section containing a ventilation duct. Using one of the gadgets on his belt, he opened it and entered. He crawled for several meters until he finally emerged on the other side.

Activating his invisibility and sonar, Peter discovered that this section of the building was occupied almost entirely by automatons. Cortana prevented them from detecting him because the previous AI integrated into the suit also possessed a connection to the building's systems.

Peter also detected two young human signatures.

Following them, he soon discovered two children: a girl and a boy.

As he approached, he saw the girl stop drawing on a piece of paper and suddenly look around like a startled lemur, an action that brought a small smile to his face. After a few seconds, she returned to her drawing.

The boy was not far away, sitting only a few meters from her while playing on a game console. His eyes had seemingly not blinked once since turning it on.

Silently approaching them, Peter positioned himself only a short distance away.

"Kids," he said before becoming visible.

"AHHHHHHHH!"

The fright was enough to make the girl snap her pencil while the boy dropped his controller, immediately losing whatever progress he had made in the game.

The moment the children saw him, however, the fear in their eyes disappeared and transformed into an anger Peter would not normally expect from children, but rather from people several decades older.

"You!"

Peter watched the boy, probably around ten years old, glare at him with fury as his hands began to glow.

A similar reaction came from the girl beside him. She grabbed a pair of scissors from the table and pointed them directly at Peter.

"Whoa, whoa. Hold on. I am not who you think I am."

Peter said this before removing his mask. He knew that if he did not de-escalate the situation quickly, the boy's powers might alert far too many people, and the last thing Peter wanted was unnecessary attention.

Once he removed the mask, the anger on both children's faces stopped cold.

They stared at him with caution and suspicion.

Physically, he did not resemble Peter-616 at all.

Even so, Franklin kept his hands glowing while Valeria continued pointing the scissors at him. However, after Peter revealed his face, their readiness to immediately attack diminished and was gradually replaced by suspicion.

Peter could neutralize both of them if necessary, but he decided to take the easier approach.

Besides, they could help him.

"Listen. I am Peter Parker from another dimension, and I have come to ask for your help."

The children's expressions showed obvious doubt and suspicion.

"If you want to return to your dimension, you will have to wait for my mother and father to come back. Otherwise, go to Mr. Sta...."

Peter raised one hand, stopping Franklin before he could continue.

"First things first. Introductions. Did your parents not teach you that?" he asked with a hint of humor.

Both children frowned.

"I am Franklin Richards, and this is Valeria Richards," they said, still tense and very much on guard.

"Kids with a elastic band. And from what I can see, your mother is Susan, correct?"

Peter deliberately pretended not to know them.

"Yes."

"I figured. You have her features."

Peter looked at Valeria.

"I know that when you grow up, you will be just as beautiful as your mother."

Then he looked at Franklin.

"And you... thanks to the One Above All that you inherited everything from your mother."

"Thanks, I guess?" Franklin replied uncertainly. "Who is the One Above All?"

"Ask your Uncle Peter."

Peter paused before suddenly adopting a much more serious tone.

"By the way, never, ever, EVER speak respectfully to people like Stark, Pym, Summers, Barton, and others. Understood? That goes for both of you."

He began counting examples.

"Instead, call them KFC, Chickeneye, Tin Man, Toaster, Wife Beater, Demented, Idiots, and others."

His comments made both children giggle, which brought a small smile to Peter's face.

"Listen. You may not trust me, and I understand. But I came here to ask for your help in resolving several things concerning your Uncle Peter."

Their expressions immediately became more attentive.

"Do not worry. Nothing has happened to him. I have simply come to fix a few things, and you might receive a gift along the way unlike anything he received for Christmas or his birthday."

Peter took his mask and brought it closer to his mouth.

"Look, I will show you something. Cortana, I know you have a picture of me with Susan. Put it on the television."

The television flickered with light interference. The game disappeared, replaced by an image of Peter with Susan asleep in his arms, her hair completely disheveled and a small trace of drool visible at the corner of her mouth.

The picture made Peter froze but smiled again.

"She is my Susan. A little different from your mother."

"You are dating my Mom?" Valeria asked in amazement.

A gleam appeared in her eyes, mirrored almost immediately by Franklin.

"Yes. I am very happy with the relationship I have with her, although more than once I have made her faint because of the things I have done."

Peter shrugged.

"Like creating a new element."

"Wow, that is great!" Franklin exclaimed.

Valeria immediately nodded with equal enthusiasm.

"So, do you want to help me and receive a great gift?"

Peter deliberately used a calm tone, exploiting one of the greatest strengths...and weaknesses...children possessed.

Curiosity.

If they helped him with what he had planned, he might finally answer one of the many questions he had been asking himself for years.

"We will help you, but if you lie, Franklin will hurt you with his powers, and I will shoot you with a laser gun," Valeria said.

Her serious tone made her look more adorable than intimidating.

"With your help, I am satisfied, little genius."

Peter then looked at Franklin.

"What do you say, Game Boy? Do you agree? If you do not think the deal is fair, I have a game that does not exist in this universe."

He made the offer with a gesture that could have attracted even Mephisto himself.

"Okay. I will help. But I want that game."

"Great."

Peter shook hands with both children.

I wonder if they will be like this when I have kids with Susan.
