Three years.
MOUNTAIN PEAK SEVEN — VORN ESTATE, WORLD THIRTEEN
The Foundation Establishment Rank 4 Shadow Leopard didn't see him coming.
It should have. The beast stood three meters tall at the shoulder, muscles rippling beneath matte black fur, eyes glowing with predatory intelligence. Its cultivation base alone would have made it a nightmare for most Core Formation cultivators.
But it was dead before it knew Kael was there.
Gravity compressed the air beneath Kael's feet as he dropped from the cliff overhead — silent, fast, inevitable. He landed on the leopard's spine, one hand closing around the base of its skull.
Lightning surged.
The leopard's body seized. Blue-white arcs crackled across its fur, racing from Kael's palm through every nerve ending simultaneously. The beast couldn't scream. Couldn't move. Couldn't even process what was happening before Kael's other hand drove a gravity-enhanced punch through its skull.
The corpse hit the ground.
Kael stood on top of it.
Shirtless. Sweat-slicked. A pair of loose training pants hung low on his hips, his torso exposed to the mountain wind. Three years of body refinement had transformed his physique — lean and densely muscled, every line defined, scars from a hundred battles crossing his skin like a map of survival. The thin line from his collarbone to his hip remained. New ones joined it.
Around him, the mountain peak looked like a slaughterhouse.
Six Foundation Establishment beasts lay dead in various states of destruction. A Stone Bear with its chest caved in. A Wind Serpent cut into seven pieces. A Thunder Wolf with its head missing entirely. A Flame Panther frozen mid-lunge, its body cracked open by compressed gravity. A Shadow Jaguar pinned to the ground by its own shadow. A Crimson Eagle with wings shattered by lightning.
All Foundation Establishment.
All killed by one man.
All killed within the last two hours.
Kael stepped off the leopard's corpse and stretched. His joints popped. Sweat evaporated from his skin almost instantly — the Void Body Refinement had given him temperature regulation that bordered on inhuman.
He looked toward the tree line.
Twelve Vorn estate guards stood at the base of the peak. They'd been there since he started. They were always there now.
Kael picked up a canteen from a nearby rock and drank. Slowly. Deliberately. Let the guards watch him stand among seven Foundation Establishment corpses like they were nothing.
Because to him, they were nothing.
He crushed the empty canteen and tossed it aside.
Then he walked down the mountain.
The guards parted like water.
Aria waited at the tree line with a folded set of clothes.
She was different from three years ago. Taller. Leaner. Her short black hair had grown out slightly, framing a face that had sharpened from pretty to striking. Her violet eyes carried a weight they hadn't before — the weight of someone who had killed enough to stop counting.
And her aura...
Peak Core Formation. The air around her hummed with compressed power, shadows writhing at her feet like loyal hounds.
"You're covered in blood," she said.
"Mostly theirs."
"Mostly."
Kael accepted the clothes and pulled on a black shirt. Aria watched the muscles in his back shift as he moved.
"You could have killed those beasts faster."
"Speed wasn't the point."
"It never is with you." She held out a pair of boots.
Kael laced the boots and stood.
"Fear is a tool. Tools don't need purpose beyond their function." He looked at her. "But if you're asking whether I enjoy it... no. I don't enjoy being feared. I enjoy being left alone. Fear is just the most efficient method."
Aria studied him.
Three years had changed him. The sharp edges were sharper..
"Sebastian is already ready to leave for the academy," Aria said.
"I know."
"He was smug about it. Telling everyone he'd already reached Core Formation Rank 5 and that the academy would be easy."
"He's Core Formation Rank 5 with a Flawless core and rich relatives funding his resources. He should be further along than that."
"Isabella is also ready to leave for the academy since the academy entry has been moved closer."
"When do we leave?"
"Tomorrow." Kael rolled his shoulders. "One more night in this cage. Then four years of a different cage."
"You're looking forward to it."
"I'm looking forward to being underestimated by people who don't know my name." He smiled — that quick, dangerous smile. "The estate knows who I am now. The academy doesn't. That's an advantage I intend to exploit. Oh, the fun I'm going to be having there."
Aria fell into step beside him as they walked toward the estate.
They reached the estate gates.
Kael paused.
"Aria."
"Yes?"
"Pack light. The academy doesn't care about status. It cares about results."
She nodded.
He walked inside.

Kael scrolled through the list.
Everything was on track. Core Formation Rank 9 achieved with seven months to spare. Tier 2 Mid body cultivation — ahead of schedule. Talent upgraded twice since the dungeon, now sitting at Blue. The Concealment Pendant would mask him as Core Formation Rank 7 when he arrived at the academy, giving him room to hide his true strength.
