Kael opened his eyes.
Darkness.
Not normal darkness. This one moved. It breathed.
"…Again?" Kael whispered.
No ground. No sky.
Only floating fragments. Broken pieces of something that once felt real.
"…I'm still here," he said.
"Yes," a voice answered.
Kael froze.
"…You again," he said.
A shape formed in front of him. Tall. Thin. Its body kept breaking and fixing itself.
"You are deeper now," it said.
Kael lifted his sword. "…I don't remember asking to go deeper."
"You didn't," the voice replied. "…But you opened the door."
Kael frowned. "…What door?"
The space around him cracked.
"You," the voice said.
Kael blinked. "…That makes no sense."
"It will," the voice replied.
Another voice laughed. Cold. Sharp.
"…He still thinks he's in control."
Kael turned. Another figure appeared behind him.
"…Great," Kael muttered. "…More of you."
"Not more," the second figure said. "…Just different."
Kael tightened his grip on his sword. "…Say what you want. I'm still cutting through you."
The first figure tilted its head. "…Try."
Kael moved.
Fast.
His blade cut through the air, glowing with energy.
The figure split in half—
—and reformed instantly.
"…Not good," Kael muttered.
The second figure stepped closer. "…You can't destroy what isn't whole."
"…Then I'll break everything," Kael snapped.
He swung again. Harder. Faster.
Energy exploded.
Fragments shattered.
The void trembled.
"…Better," the second figure said. "…But still not enough."
Kael stepped back. Breathing heavy.
"…Alright," he said. "…New plan."
The first figure leaned forward. "…We are listening."
Kael smirked. "…I stop playing your game."
The void went silent.
"…You think this is a game?" the second figure asked.
Kael pointed his sword at them. "…Everything is a game. You win or you lose."
"And what if you are the piece?" the first figure said.
Kael paused.
"…Then I break the board," he said.
The space around him cracked harder.
Fragments began to spin.
Faster.
Faster.
"…Careful," the second figure warned. "…You are pushing the between."
Kael ignored it. "…Good."
Energy surged through his body.
"…If this place reacts to me," he said, "…then I control it."
The first figure laughed. "…Control? No. You only influence."
Kael's eyes narrowed. "…Same thing."
He slammed his sword down.
The void shattered.
Dozens of fragments flew outward.
Each one showing something.
A memory.
A possibility.
A version of Kael.
Kael stared.
"…What is this?" he whispered.
"Your paths," the first figure said.
"Your failures," the second added.
Kael's jaw tightened. "…Then I choose the best one."
"You don't choose," the first figure said. "…They choose you."
"…No," Kael said. "…I decide."
A fragment moved closer.
Inside it—
Kael saw himself.
Broken. Bleeding. Alone.
"…That's not me," Kael said.
"It is," the second figure replied. "…One of many ends."
Kael slashed the fragment.
It shattered.
"…Not anymore," he said.
Another fragment came.
This one showed Kael standing above countless shadows.
Strong. Untouchable.
Kael paused.
"…Now that," he said, "…I like."
The first figure spoke softly.
"…Power always has a cost."
Kael smirked. "…I'll pay later."
He reached for the fragment—
—but it moved away.
"…What?" Kael frowned.
"You are not ready," the second figure said.
Kael's expression hardened. "…Then I'll force it."
Energy exploded from him.
All fragments shook.
The void trembled.
"…Stop," the first figure said. "…You will break everything."
Kael laughed. "…That's the point."
The darkness shifted.
Something changed.
A new presence appeared.
Heavy.
Cold.
Watching.
Kael froze.
"…That's new," he whispered.
Both figures stepped back.
"…You went too far," the second figure said.
"…Good," Kael replied.
The darkness behind him moved.
Slow.
Massive.
"…What is that?" Kael asked.
No answer.
The first figure looked at him.
"…That is not a fragment."
Kael tightened his grip.
"…Then what is it?"
The voice lowered.
"…It is what comes after."
The darkness opened.
Not like a door.
Like a wound.
A giant shape stepped out.
Too big.
Too wrong.
Kael felt it before he saw it.
Pressure.
Fear.
"…Finally," the shadow said.
Kael's heart pounded.
"…You can talk too?" he said.
The shadow laughed.
"…I do more than talk."
Kael raised his sword.
"…Good. Then we understand each other."
The shadow moved.
Fast.
Too fast.
Kael barely blocked.
The impact threw him back.
"…That's new," Kael groaned.
"You are weak," the shadow said.
Kael stood up.
"…And you talk too much."
He charged.
His blade cut through the air.
The shadow dodged without moving.
"…What?" Kael blinked.
"You are slow," it said.
Kael attacked again.
Faster.
Stronger.
Still nothing.
"…This is annoying," Kael muttered.
The shadow stepped closer.
"…You fight like you are alone."
Kael gritted his teeth.
"…I am."
The shadow laughed.
"…That is why you lose."
It raised its hand.
The void bent.
Fragments turned.
All pointing at Kael.
"…Now you face all outcomes," the shadow said.
Kael looked around.
Dozens.
Hundreds.
Versions of himself.
"…You've got to be kidding me," he whispered.
They moved.
All at once.
Kael swung.
Clash.
Clash.
Clash.
Blades met blades.
Energy burst everywhere.
"…This is insane!" Kael shouted.
"…This is truth," the shadow replied.
Kael blocked another strike.
"…I don't accept this truth!"
He pushed forward.
Cutting through one version.
Then another.
They kept coming.
"…Too many!" Kael yelled.
"You are many," the shadow said. "…So face yourself."
Kael jumped back.
Breathing hard.
"…Think…" he muttered.
Another version attacked.
Kael dodged.
"…Think faster!"
A memory flashed.
Fragments.
Control.
Division.
Kael's eyes widened.
"…Right…"
He raised his hand.
Energy split.
Copies of Kael appeared.
"…Let's even the numbers," he said.
His copies charged.
They clashed with the other versions.
Chaos exploded.
"…Now this feels better," Kael smirked.
The shadow watched.
"…You learn," it said.
Kael wiped blood from his mouth.
"…I adapt."
The battle grew louder.
Faster.
More violent.
Kael moved through it all.
Cutting.
Dodging.
Surviving.
"…Still not enough," he muttered.
The shadow stepped forward.
"…Of course not."
Kael froze.
"…You again."
The shadow raised its hand.
All versions stopped.
Everything went still.
"…Now," it said, "…you face me."
Kael tightened his grip.
"…Finally."
He charged.
Full speed.
Full power.
His blade glowed brighter than ever.
"…This ends now!" he shouted.
The shadow did not move.
At the last second—
Kael struck.
The blade hit—
Nothing.
Kael's eyes widened.
"…No…"
The shadow was behind him.
"…Too slow."
Kael turned—
Too late.
A hand grabbed his chest.
Cold.
Heavy.
"…Got you," the shadow whispered.
Kael struggled.
"…Let go!"
Energy burst from him.
The shadow didn't move.
"…You are not strong enough," it said.
Kael gritted his teeth.
"…Then I'll become stronger!"
His energy spiked.
Violent.
Unstable.
The void cracked again.
"…Careful," a distant voice warned.
Kael ignored it.
"…More… I need more…"
The shadow smiled.
"…Yes… break yourself."
Kael roared.
Energy exploded outward.
The shadow stepped back.
For the first time.
"…Interesting," it said.
Kael dropped to one knee.
Breathing hard.
"…That… worked…"
The shadow tilted its head.
"…For a moment."
Kael looked up.
"…A moment is enough."
He stood.
Barely.
"…Round two," he said.
The shadow laughed.
"…You still don't understand."
Kael frowned.
"…Then explain."
The shadow spread its arms.
The void opened wider.
Deeper.
Endless.
"…You are not fighting me," it said.
Kael's heart skipped.
"…Then what am I fighting?"
The shadow leaned closer.
"…You are fighting what comes next."
Kael's eyes widened.
"…What?"
The darkness behind the shadow moved again.
Bigger.
Much bigger.
Something far worse began to form.
Kael stepped back.
"…No… that's not real…"
The shadow smiled.
"…It is now."
A massive eye opened in the void.
Watching.
Waiting.
Alive.
Kael's hands shook.
"…What is that?"
The shadow whispered—
"…The one that watches doors."
Kael felt something snap inside him.
Fear.
Real fear.
"…I can't fight that…"
The shadow stepped aside.
"…You don't fight it."
Kael's voice cracked.
"…Then what do I do?"
The eye focused on him.
The entire void froze.
"…You open," the shadow said.
Kael's mind went blank.
"…Open… what?"
The shadow pointed at him.
"…You."
Silence.
Heavy.
Endless.
Kael took a step back.
"…No…"
The eye glowed brighter.
"…Yes."
Kael's sword trembled in his hand.
"…I don't even know how!"
The shadow laughed.
"…That's the fun part."
The eye blinked.
The void cracked.
Everything began to collapse.
Kael felt himself falling—
Not down.
Not up.
Somewhere worse.
"…Wait—!" he shouted.
The shadow's voice echoed.
"…Choose, Kael."
The eye opened wider.
"…Or be opened."
Kael reached forward—
And everything went black.
