Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Name That Should Not Be

"…You are not supposed to exist."

The words did not echo.

They settled.

Heavy.

Final.

Kael stood still, eyes locked on the thing beyond the eye.

"…Yeah," he said slowly. "…I get that a lot."

Silence.

The massive presence shifted.

Not forward.

Not back.

Just… closer.

Without moving.

Kael felt it press against his thoughts.

"…Okay… that's new," he muttered.

The figure beside him spoke quietly.

"…It is looking at what you are."

Kael smirked.

"…Then it's going to be confused."

The thing answered.

"…You are fragmented… yet whole."

Kael tilted his head.

"…I worked hard for that."

"…You broke sequence," it continued.

"…I improved it," Kael replied.

The air tightened.

The eye pulsed.

The entire space trembled.

"…You altered your path," it said.

Kael raised his hand.

Energy flowed.

Calm.

Controlled.

"…Yeah," he said. "…That's kind of my thing."

The thing paused.

Then—

"…State your designation."

Kael blinked.

"…My what?"

"…Your name," it clarified.

Kael smirked.

"…Kael."

Silence.

Long.

Heavy.

Then—

The entire void shook violently.

The eye flickered.

The figure beside Kael stepped back.

"…That reaction…" Kael whispered. "…I don't like that."

The thing spoke again.

Slower.

"…Repeat."

Kael frowned.

"…Kael."

Everything froze.

Then—

Cracks spread across the space.

"…Impossible," the thing said.

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"…Okay. Now I really don't like that."

The figure beside him looked at him.

"…That name…"

"…What about it?" Kael asked.

"…It does not belong here."

Kael laughed.

"…Nothing here belongs anywhere."

The thing moved again.

Closer.

Heavier.

"…That name was erased."

Kael's smile faded slightly.

"…Erased?"

"…From all sequences."

Kael's grip tightened.

"…Well… looks like someone missed a spot."

The thing's presence spiked.

"…You are an error."

Kael exhaled slowly.

"…Yeah. Heard that too."

"…Errors are removed."

Kael raised his hand.

"…You can try."

Silence.

Then—

"…We will."

The eye above flared.

Light poured out.

Kael braced himself.

"…Here we go."

The space shattered.

A force slammed into him.

Kael slid back.

"…Still hits hard," he muttered.

The thing stepped forward.

"…You will be corrected."

Kael grinned.

"…I don't do correction."

He vanished.

Reappeared in front of it.

Struck.

This time—

The hit landed.

The thing shifted slightly.

"…Contact achieved," Kael said.

"…Insufficient," it replied.

It moved.

Faster than before.

Kael barely reacted.

Blocked—

But was pushed back.

"…Okay… stronger than last time," he said.

The figure beside him called out.

"…It is adapting."

Kael nodded.

"…Good. So am I."

He rushed again.

Strike.

Strike.

Strike.

Each hit stronger.

More precise.

"…You are resisting," the thing said.

Kael laughed.

"…That's what I do."

The thing raised its hand.

Reality bent.

Kael froze mid-air.

"…Again with this—!"

"…You rely on motion," it said.

Kael gritted his teeth.

"…And you rely on cheating."

"…Correction is not cheating."

Kael forced a grin.

"…Feels like it."

He focused.

The same feeling as before.

Let go.

His body loosened.

Not physical.

Not fixed.

He slipped.

Out of the hold.

"…Better," he said.

The thing paused.

"…You are learning too fast."

Kael shrugged.

"…I don't like losing."

He attacked again.

This time—

Different.

No wasted movement.

No hesitation.

The thing blocked.

But was pushed.

"…Progress detected," it said.

Kael smirked.

"…Thanks."

The fight intensified.

Faster.

Sharper.

The space around them cracked with every clash.

The figure watched silently.

"…He is changing again," it whispered.

Kael moved behind the thing.

"…Too slow."

He struck.

The thing turned—

But too late.

Hit confirmed.

It staggered.

"…Impossible…" it said.

Kael stood straight.

"…Possible."

The thing grew still.

Then—

"…Escalation authorized."

Kael blinked.

"…That doesn't sound good."

The eye above—

Opened wider.

Light turned dark.

The entire space shifted.

Heavier.

Much heavier.

Kael dropped to one knee.

"…Okay… that's definitely not good."

The thing stepped forward.

Larger now.

More defined.

"…You will be removed."

Kael pushed himself up.

"…Not today."

"…Today."

It raised its hand.

Everything stopped.

Even Kael's thoughts slowed.

"…You cannot fight what defines the rules," it said.

Kael's vision blurred.

"…Watch me…"

He forced himself forward.

Step.

Step.

Each step felt impossible.

But he moved.

"…Resistance confirmed," it said.

Kael laughed weakly.

"…You talk too much…"

He jumped.

Everything he had—

In one strike.

The blade formed again in his hand.

He swung.

Time cracked.

The strike landed.

Direct.

The thing paused.

For a moment—

It did not move.

"…Impact… registered," it said.

Kael landed.

Breathing heavily.

"…Yeah… I felt that too…"

The thing looked down.

At the mark.

A crack.

Small.

But real.

"…You damaged it," the figure whispered.

Kael smiled.

"…Told you."

The thing raised its head.

Slowly.

"…Error… confirmed."

Kael's smile faded.

"…That doesn't sound like a compliment."

The crack—

Spread.

Not damage.

Transformation.

"…You forced adaptation," it said.

Kael stepped back.

"…Wait…"

The thing's form changed.

More stable.

More dangerous.

"…New state initialized."

Kael's heart dropped.

"…You've got to be kidding me…"

It looked at him again.

"…Now… we proceed."

Kael took a deep breath.

"…Alright…"

He raised his hand.

Energy gathered.

"…Round three."

The figure behind him whispered—

"…Kael… this is not the same level anymore…"

Kael didn't look back.

"…I know."

"…Then stop."

Kael shook his head.

"…No."

Silence.

Then—

"…Why?"

Kael smiled slightly.

"…Because if I stop… I disappear."

The thing moved.

Faster than anything before.

Kael reacted.

Barely.

Their clash shattered the void again.

But this time—

Kael was pushed back.

Hard.

"…Okay… that's new…"

The thing followed.

Relentless.

Strike after strike.

Kael blocked.

Dodged.

But barely.

"…You are falling behind," it said.

Kael gritted his teeth.

"…Not yet…"

He countered.

But the thing adapted instantly.

Blocked.

Returned.

Stronger.

Kael was thrown back.

"…This is bad…"

He stood again.

Breathing harder.

"…Think… think…"

The thing stepped forward.

"…No more delay."

Kael's mind raced.

Fragments.

Door.

Eye.

Name.

His eyes widened.

"…Wait…"

The thing paused.

"…Realization detected."

Kael smiled.

"…Yeah…"

He lowered his stance.

"…You said my name was erased."

"…Correct."

"…From all sequences."

"…Correct."

Kael's grin grew.

"…Then why do I still have it?"

Silence.

The thing stopped moving.

"…Explain."

Kael pointed at himself.

"…Because I'm not part of your system anymore."

The figure behind him froze.

"…He's right…"

The thing's presence spiked.

"…Contradiction."

Kael stepped forward.

"…You can't erase what you can't reach."

The space trembled.

"…Then we expand reach."

Kael laughed.

"…Good luck."

He raised his hand.

Energy gathered.

Different now.

Stronger.

Not from the system.

Not from the between.

From him.

"…Let's try something new."

The thing moved.

But Kael moved first.

Faster than before.

Cleaner.

Sharper.

He struck.

The hit landed.

Hard.

The thing staggered again.

"…Impossible…"

Kael smiled.

"…You keep saying that."

The figure whispered—

"…He's no longer bound…"

Kael stepped forward again.

"…Your rules don't work on me anymore."

The thing stood still.

Then—

"…Then we remove you entirely."

Kael's smile faded.

"…Try."

The eye above—

Closed.

Everything went dark.

Complete darkness.

Kael froze.

"…What now…?"

Silence.

Then—

A voice.

Not from the thing.

Not from the figure.

Something else.

"…Found you."

Kael's eyes widened.

"…No…"

The voice came closer.

Familiar.

Too familiar.

"…I've been waiting."

Kael slowly turned.

Behind him—

A shape.

The first one.

The one from the crack.

"…You…"

It smiled.

"…Me."

Kael's grip tightened.

"…You followed me here?"

"…I never left."

Silence.

Heavy.

Dangerous.

The thing in front.

The thing behind.

Both focused on him.

The figure whispered—

"…Two of them…"

Kael exhaled slowly.

"…Of course."

The one behind him leaned closer.

"…Now… we choose."

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"…No."

"…No?" it asked.

Kael smiled.

"…I'm done choosing."

The thing in front stepped forward.

"…You must."

The one behind tightened its presence.

"…Or we will choose for you."

Kael raised his hand.

Energy surged.

"…Then come try."

Silence.

Then—

Both moved.

At the same time.

From both sides.

Kael stood in the center.

No escape.

No time.

He smiled.

"…Perfect."

The space shattered—

Right as both attacks reached him—

And something inside Kael—

Broke again.
