Chapter 17 - Aftermaths part 1

Adrien came back home after he finished dealing with the mother Licht. He could not return to school yet, because the leaders of the supernatural world still had to handle what the public saw today. He turned on the TV, and every news channel was talking about what had happened.

"Here's the aftermath of the battle between the black-winged man against the ghost and the dragons, as you can see..."

A reporter was showing the battlefield where Adrien had fought the mother Licht and the Wyverns. They had even gotten footage of the fight, but it was very blurry. That was obviously because of the demonic power in the air, since large amounts of it can disturb electronic devices.

"Are they connected to the zombie outbreak? That is the question everyone is asking tonight. According to several eye-witnesses, the moment the black-winged man killed the ghost-like woman, the dragons suddenly vanished and the zombies stopped moving. Some even say the creatures disappeared at the exact same time, as if they were all linked to her somehow. But is that really the full truth? Right now, no one can say for sure. Investigators are still studying the battlefield and collecting reports from survivors."

Adrien flipped to another channel, three men and woman were sitting across long curved tables, "The real question now is this: since when did powers exist in our world? Were we all living normal lives while creatures, monsters, and people with supernatural abilities existed in secret this whole time? Tonight, many people are asking if the world they believed in was ever truly normal at all."

"This situation ended up being extremely bothersome, wouldn't you agree", a sudden voice came from behind Adrien,

Adrien wasn't surprised, he just nodded. "Yeah, if you did your job well you wouldn't have let a mother Licht escape the underworld. Don't you have specialists dealing with stuff like that?"

"We do have yes, we will be conducting a thorough research after I return to Lilith", Sirzechs Lucifer said.

Adrien turned the TV off and signaled for Sirzechs to take a seat.

After Sirzechs sat on the sofa opposite of Adrien, he started talking. "First, I would like to thank you for dealing with the mother Licht. Even if Rias and Sona had tried fighting her together, one, they would have been too late, and two, they would not have been able to deal with her as quickly as you did, so even more casualties would have occurred."

"How many casualties was there?"

"43,456 people died and 2,578 were injured across Tokyo proper, Chiba, Kawasaki, and Saitama. Thankfully, the undead outbreak did not spread any further." The number of dead was higher than the number of injured because a single bite from one of the undead was usually enough to kill a person and turn them into one of them.

"I just threw the question like that but you really had an answer," Adrien wasn't happy with the answer though.

"We need to act quickly. Even now, we are already working to conceal the incident. The Fallen Angels will also assist us, since they share territories with us in the Underworld, and because this matter is partly their responsibility as well."

"Is that so? we're working these pricks now."

"We will accept whatever help we can get. After all, we must conceal this entire incident in a single night. Because of that, we decided that they will handle the smaller cities, while we will take care of Tokyo."

Adrien understood what it meant to conceal an event like that, it took an incredible amount of work... and cruelty.

"Don't erase the memories of a girl named Saeko Busujima," Adrien said.

"I understand, I'll make sure of it, but do not forget that you'll need to move fast."

"I know".

They remained silent for like a minute, then Sirzechs talked again, "As for the second thing, the governor general of the fallen angels and me decided to reward you, do you have anything you wish for".

"I want your sister and his daughter", Adrien smirked.

Sirzechs's eyes widened slightly, then he understood Adrien's expression.

"I'm kidding of course, I want Tokyo to become my official territory." Adrien answered truthfully now.

"How about my sister and Azazel's daughter?"

"Nah I'll pass, like I said I want Tokyo."

"Do you know what you're asking for?", Sirzechs eyes became serious for the first time during this conversation. "Tokyo is one of the biggest cities in the world, with more than 40 million people residing in it."

"And did you forget that I saved your asses? If I wasn't here in the first place then the like you said earlier the number of casualties would have been tremendous and you wouldn't have been able to conceal it that easily without asking help from the Angels, and that's not option you're willing to take, right my Lord~?"

"Sometimes, I hate how smart you are." Adrien knew that if the incident had turned out even worse, Sirzechs and Azazel would have had no choice but to contact the Archangel Michael, and that would not have been a fun phone call.

Sirzechs sighed and thought for a minute, "How about you take Tokyo proper without greater Tokyo".

"So just Tokyo itself, huh..." Adrien thought for a second, then nodded. "Alright, I'll take it. It's still heavily populated."

Sirzechs let out a sigh of relief. Azazel would have definitely cussed him out if he had agreed to give Adrien all of Tokyo.

Tokyo proper was still a huge area, but they did owe Adrien. For comparison, Tokyo proper was around twenty times bigger than Kuoh was.

Sirzechs then looked at Adrien and smirked, "my sister is till on the table if you want, it could be an addition to the territory."

"Don't go around selling your sister like that," Adrien responded, then he remembered something. "For you to tell me something like that... what happened to the engagement with the Phenex".

"Oh about that, the engagement had been called off", Sirzechs answered with a smug look on his face.

"Huh, why?"

"Well, thanks to the beating you gave him, Riser Phenex has locked himself in his room and refuses to come out. The humiliation completely crushed his confidence. On top of that, he was pushed to the edge by Rias, even though it was her first time ever taking part in a Rating Game. So me and my father decided to cancel the engagement as he is not worthy of Rias."

"If Sirzechs wants something he gets it", Adrien chuckled, "What daddy wants, daddy gets!"

"That's such a weird way to put it."

"Right?"

"So, do you want our Rias?", Sirzechs asked again.

"Do you want me to write it down for you? NO."

Sirzechs sighed in resignation. He had thought he could pull off another swindle on Rias by using Adrien. After all, there was no way in hell or heaven that Rias could come anywhere close to beating Adrien, whether he had a team or not. On top of that, Adrien was the greatest talent the Underworld had ever seen, Sirzechs included. In half a century or less, he would most likely stand as the strongest Devil in history. So the Gremory would do anything to make him come to their side.

A girl opened the front door and stepped into the house, her blonde hair flowing behind her.

"Ah, perfect timing. Come here, Mahiru," Adrien said, motioning for her to come closer.

Mahiru walked to the living room and saw a stranger sitting on the living room sofa, he had shoulder length crimson hair and blue eyes, with incredibly handsome features.

"Oh, hello... um, nice to meet you. I'm Mahiru Shiina, Adrien's Bishop," she said. Sirzechs' presence and aura made her feel a little pressured, but that was only natural.

"Nice to meet you, my name is Sirzechs Lucifer," Sirzechs said with a smile.

"L-Lucifer... like THE Lucifer!", Mahiru's eyes widened in surprise, well not everyone would expect to return home and see the Devil King in their living room.

"The one and only," Adrien answered with a smirk, he was enjoying her reaction.

"I-I'll go make you some tea!" She darted to the kitchen immediately.

Sirzechs let out a small chuckle. "Adrien, do you really think you can manage Tokyo proper? If I remember right, you only have two servants, and one of them isn't even here. After all, it has more than 14 million residents".

"The other one is coming tomorrow, and I'm sure I'll manage it, I have lots of familiars that can help".

Sirzechs nodded. "Now what about this Saeko Busujima girl, what did you see in her?"

"Aren't you asking a lot of questions?"

Mahiru stumbled in the kitchen when she heard how Adrien was talking to the Devil King.

"Well, I'm interested in the peerage of the future Devil King," Sirzechs replied.

"Did I ever say I'd succeed you? That position sounds like a such a drag, so no thanks."

"I said the same when I was your age, and look at me now".

"Yeah, the epitome of bad decision making", Adrien said with a smirk.

"Adrien, th-that's the devil king, shouldn't you be more respectful", Mahiru said as she brought two cups of tea and whispered in Adrien's ear, Sirzechs did hear her though.

"It's alright, Mahiru. He's always been like this," Sirzechs said, trying to ease her worries.

That only made Mahiru more confused. Wasn't the Devil King supposed to be terrifying, cruel, and arrogant?

Adrien noticed her expression and said, "Sirzechs has always been like this. But trust me, when he gets serious, it's terrifying."

Sirzechs didn't say anything, he just sipped some of the tea that Mahiru prepared and nodded his head approvingly, "It's delicious Mahiru, oh you don't mind me calling you by your first name right?"

"Y-yes of course, it'd be weirder if you didn't," she replied instantely.

Sirzechs motioned for Mahiru to sit down, so she quietly took a seat beside Adrien.

"I heard that your Sacred Gear awakened. Some reports mentioned a pink hemispherical barrier appearing over your school," Sirzechs said. He paused for a moment, then bowed his head slightly. "Thank you for helping us deal with the undead despite you only becoming a devil yesterday, Mahiru."

Mahiru quickly raised both hands, trying to stop him. "No, please. I was only trying to save the students. I didn't even understand how my Sacred Gear worked, so it was really just pure luck."

Mahiru looked a little embarrassed, but then Adrien pulled her into a side hug with one arm. "That's my Bishop for you!"

Her ears reddened slightly.

Sirzechs finished his tea and stood up, "well, I need to get going, I will tell the governor of the fallen angels about the reward you chose and send you a letter, he will probably agree to it."

"Alright, come by again, I'll beat your ass in chess like always."

"If I remember correctly it was I who won last time," Sirzechs smirked.

"Yeah you were lucky".

After their short back-and-forth, Sirzechs left.

?";

'Mahiru sighed. "The day was soo long!"

"Right? I'm proud of you by the way", Adrien patted Mahiru's head, "you did a great job, I'm sure the number of casualties in Seijo-High would have been way bigger if you weren't present."

Mahiru smiled gently, "Can I get a reward...?"

"Sure, you can ask for everything" Adrien asked.

Mahiru turned her head to the side and pointed at her cheek, avoiding Adrien's eyes.

Adrien bent down a little and kissed her on the cheek. Mahiru's face turned bright red, and she quickly hid her face behind a couch pillow.

"Now then, stay here and lock the doors I need to go somewhere".

Saeko had just finished dinner with her family. They had eaten in complete silence. What happened today was far beyond anything they had expected.

Still, this was not her family's first time dealing with the supernatural. Her father had once made a summoning contract with a devil, so they already knew such beings existed.

She waked up the stairs going up to her room, she walked through the hallway of the second floor, her feet tapping the wooden flouring.

Click!

a few hours passed and she couldn't fall asleep, despite how tired she was, her mind wouldn't shut down. What if, while she was sleeping, zombies returned and attacked her parents. She got out of her bed and walked to the window in her room.

Her eyes immediately focused on a lone figure floating in the sky, framed by the full moon behind him, four pairs of wings stretched out from his back.
