He blinked at me slowly, his eyes shifting to a warmer and lighter hazel. "I take genuine pleasure in providing for you, Nova."
I blushed and let the conversation drop before my thoughts could wander somewhere they should not, which they were already beginning to do regardless. I chewed on my lip and looked at the empty plate and told myself firmly to focus on something else.
"Nova."
His voice was low and deliberate. I looked up to find him sitting very still with both hands pressed flat on the lap tray. His jaw was set and his eyes were darkening and I realised with a rush of embarrassment that the bond was completely open between us and every thought I had been having had passed through it directly to him.
A slightly strangled laugh escaped me. He stood and took a couple of careful steps back from the bed, and I felt the distance immediately in a way that Cel was vocal about.
